4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 thenick (766) - North Bellmore, New York, USA - MAR 25, 2010Draft @ EBF Night of th Barrels. Pours a hazy golden color with a fluffy white head. Aroma largely of brett and cherry, with a bit of wood detectable. Taste is largely fruity with a cherry tartness that’s enhanced by the brett and other earthy notes within the beer. I really enjoyed it - good stuff, and a milestone for American craft brewing.

A Sim rate (Extreme Beer Fest Night of the Barrels): Smells like strawberry sherbert where you get the tart sherbert alongside the sugar-sweet strawberry. Crisp lambic aroma with some Belgian yeast. Sweet & sour in the flavour in equal measure. Tart sherbert finish that just makes you want more. Excellent. Palate is a fizzy tease that tingles the tongue. Absolutely amazing. Finish of sour orange pulp. I didn’t know it at the time but this went on to be the beer of the festival. Absolutely loved it!

Draft EBF NOTB. Pours a golden copper body with a fluffy white head. Brett and cherry tones, some lush skins, with a musky cheese leather and mild bacteria hints. Peachy with a mild acidity and a tart finish. I like.

Pouring at EBF’s Night of the Barrels. Pours a hazy gold with a medium sized creamy white head. Funky, light brett, soft fuzzy cherries. Light acetone and a bit of sweetness. A bit more acetone on the body, along with cherry and wheat. Long bretty finish. This was delicious.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Glouglouburp (5545) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 27, 2010
In short: A hard to describe complex, funky, tart and fruity beer. One of a kind. Awesome.
How: Tap at Boston Extreme Beer Fest 2010. Night Of The Barrel session. Two samples… and then it was gone :(
The look: Very cloudy blonde body topped by a large white head
In long: Fantastic strong smelly funky wild nose with notes of fruit salad. Taste is very wild/funky with a complex unusual fruit character. Not really focussed on cherries, more like a fruit salad (including cherries). Light sourness, strong tartness, dry finish. I would need to slowly drink a full glass to give this beer and appropriate description. But all I can say is that I was left with a wow! feeling and the sensation of having had something different and unique. During this Boston trip I attended two Extreme Beer Fest sessions and two hotel tasting sessions with the most crazy beer. This was my favourite of the week-end. That is really some Cool shit (with cherries).
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - FEB 23, 2010
Cask at EBF 2010 NOTB session. Multiple pours as I figured this to be the first beer to kick, which it was. Pours a medium bright pinkish violet with a violet-pinkish white head- diminishing. Aroma is pretty decent tart earthy funky cherries- mineral almost metallic- funkiness gets a bit plasticy- earthy leathery and a strange off- not the ordinary horse manure- but more of a blend of allagash brett strain and a very harsh plasticy almsot spicy brett from de proef? Flavor is more cherry, although it gets faded out by some of the phenols and funk and acidity- the cherries seem quite unique though- almost waxy, tart, somewhat fruity, lots of pitty hints, with leather, earth and funk- mostly tart but has more plastic notes in the end. Pretty good the first sample- then the second sample made me lower my ratings. Ok overall.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Fred82 (1992) - Québec City, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 22, 2010
2oz tasting at NOTB.
Appearance : Hazy pale yellow with a huge head.
Aroma : Tart and sweet syrupy cherries. Some barnyard
Taste : Sour and tart. Sweet cherries and dry on the finish. Lots of cherries on the finish.
Overall : It got consistently better after each sips. Too bad it was gone so fast that I didn’t had the chance to get another sample.
