3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 biznizness (1047) - Mooresville, North Carolina, USA - NOV 5, 2010
Consider this the great catch-up. This rating from the previous time I was at Duckworth’s in Mooresville, a few weeks ago. This was a well-done beer but I’m still not sure I’m into the barrel-aged tripel thing. Lots of whisky present... would have preferred a more subtle integration. Good to try but I wouldn’t go pick this up.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 russwbeck (117) - Tyrone, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 1, 2010
Pours a hazy golden caramel color with a small head and very nice retention. Constant bubbles racing to the top. Wonderful smell. I’m getting your typical Belgian Tripel smell, but with a nice kick of liquor. The hit of liquor almost smells like vanilla. This is my first Barrel-Aged brew, so it really impresses me. Taste has a smooth Belgian start, that blends into a Bourbon finish. Not as dry a finish as I’m accustomed to by this style, this is almost creamy. Light body with a nice amount of carbonation that keeps the flavors fresh. This is a beer that the drinkability is interesting. I would love to drink this all the time, but I don’t see it as an everyday beer
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hoppyhampy (73) - , California, USA - OCT 28, 2010
Poured on tap into a footed allagash glass. Cloudy pale yellow-orange. Half inch of head that quickly dissipates. Light carbonation and minimal lacing. Interesting rich malt smell, similar to a lager. Also some orange citrus and a bit of coriander aroma. I can tease out some nice sweet oaky notes but not much else. Full bodied on the palate. Coats my mouth with a syrupy texture. Oaky vanilla, butterscotch, and orange peel. Not as heavy as the malty aroma suggests but still very big. Bitter, slightly hoppy gives it a cleaner impression overall, aiding drinkability. Only slightly less drinkable than other tripels. I usually don’t care for barrel aged ales because the oak can be overwhelming but I thought this one had nice balance. Not my favorite but a nice twist on the style.
1.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 jthg (76) - Austin, Texas, USA - OCT 26, 2010
Wow. What a beer! In a bad way. I had this one off tap. The pour was slightly hazy. The beer was bright yellow. And, the aroma has a slight hopiness and spice to it.
And, then I tasted this beer. At first it is clean. And, then wam pow, wow! Fresh oak and bourbon all over the place! It is like a premixed boiler maker! No thank you! If I wanted overpowering bourbon, I would order it!
Kudos for experimenting. But, this one is not for me!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 PapaSkeetSkeet (555) - Corvallis, Oregon, USA - OCT 21, 2010
Pours cloudy straw/yellow with an inch of white foam. Tastes like a batch of 100% bret fermented beer that I had recently. Smells like tart cherries and barn hay loft. Sticking my nose in I get a whiff of alcohol. Flavor is sweet hay, alcohol, tart funk, slight dough, slight hop bitterness. Cool, but nothing like the Odyssey.
