Not the nicest color, a cloudy orangish yellow, but the smell makes up for it--sour fruity and a bit spicy. There’s a soft caramelly sweetness right away that surprised me with a sour bite coming in later.

750. radiant golden orange hue with a slight haze to it. pouring this one into such a small glass its hard to get a good head to form but the color is white and it looks quite fluffy. nose displays lots of bourbon and it is jim beam for sure (i’d know that smell anywhere) also some soft coconut(?) aroma. the mout feel is all triple and nice rich with atouch of soft sweetness, plenty of that yeastiness that you find in belgians with a nice spicy hop flavor and a fair amount of alcohol on the finish. bourbon flavor comes into play throughout this one and is intertwined with every aspect of this beer and it pays off. me likey.

PIB... Foggy light orange tone with a thin white head. Highly carbonated, Sweet citrus flavors like most tripels but with a little more of a darker appeal containing some liquor influenced characteristics and a sharp malt finish.

Tap at Uber; 11% version.

Pours a light cloudy amber with a beautiful white head and heavy lacing. Soft aroma of lemon, pear, and honey; maybe a whisper of Jim Beam in there too (at just below cellar temperature; a lot of more it as this warms to room temperature, of course).

The bourbon doesn’t really come in until one reaches the smoothly blended, slightly sour, gently sweet flavor. Even there the bourbon barrel is more an afterthought than an in-your-face display of barrel-aged exotica. (Note: again, this becomes more about the bourbon as it warms, albeit in a gentle way not in a blast-you-with-vanilla-oak-syrup way). We’ve got the characteristic light septic funkiness from Allagash, along with some very nice apricots (apricot skins?) in the finish. The beer starts a bit sticky and prickly on the palate but this too comes into its own with warming and one gets quite a nice creamy beer for 11%.

All of the components of this one are lovely, but the beer isn’t blowing me quite through the roof like one might expect, given the quality of the pieces.

Bottle, Barley & Hops. Very robust belgian flavor with bourbon and oak tones. Alcohol is not as prominent as it tastes more just the taste of the bourbon tricks your mind into thinking its higher.

Draft at PIB 2007: Pours a golden haze with small white head. Aroma is honeylike with fruit, flowers and some wood. Flavor is sweet and very fruity and floral, great triple, the bourbon and wood do not show up till the end and they are fairly subtle and give a nice dry and slightly spicy finish. The alcohol is well covered up. Excellent.

Bottled. Dark yellow colour. Great aroma from coconut, vanilla and bourbon. The bourbon is almost overwhelming but adds just more greatness. Good, malty flavour profile with oak and whiskey, which is especially noticed not before finish.

Bottled. Hazy orange with a small, white head. Oak, vanilla and some coconut in both aroma and flavour. Pretty dry and sweet with peppery notes.
