On tap at the Great Lost bear, I forget the exact date as it’s not in my notes, but anyway here goes. Flavor is very hefty, drinks like a malt whiskey. The Jim Beam flavors lend themselves so well to this beer recipe. Dark caramel, woody, and peaty flavors. Didn’t remind me of any triples I’d had recently, in fact didn’t taste much like their triple at all...reminded me more of a belgian strong ale. But regardless it is what it is, and this is a very interesting offshoot that any beer fan would love.

Corked and caged 750ml. bottle. Bottling Feb. 2006. Poured a medium sized white fizzy head that almost diminished, decent amount of lacing, carbonation, hazy, and a pale yellow hue. Nose consisted of oak, bourbon, fruity, some caramel, apples and some honey. Very nice! Flavor was oak, bourbon, dry, woody, caramel, honey, and apples. Very tasty! Mouthfeel had a burning sensation in the throat and also a dry feeling. Medium-full body.

"Allagash is on the way up for me :) Poured a nice golden color small head almost no lacing. Aroma was of strong oak and some apple. Flavor was at first overwelmed by oak, then the apple and yeast. Nice nice beer."

Modest amount of foamy white head... deep golden color. Sweet aroma of fresh apples, malt, a yeasty breadiness, some woody/smoky notes. Nice rich and well-balanced flavors of apple cider, malt, yeast, citrus, hops, alcohol. Dry, slightly bitter and hoppy finish with... alcohol. A good amount of carbonation makes this pretty crisp and refreshing, but it is definitely heavy and demands to be consumed at a slow pace.

[bottled June 2006] Pours a nice golden color, with a short-lived head that leaves a little bit of lacing. Aroma is sweet, with a bit of banana, and loads of alcohol towards the end. Flavors are very sticky-sweet. Cantaloupe, pears and alcohol. The oak really makes its way through towards the end, but really doesn’t contribute that much. Perhaps, with time it will mellow out, but this fresh bottle seems to be a little harsh and unbalanced.

(06.16.06) Brown bomber bottle from Kahn’s Fine Wines, Indiana. Ale aged in oak bourbon barrel. Bottled July 2005. Cases bottled 390. poured deep hazy golden yellow with small white head. Soft carbonation. Fruity spicy aroma. Full bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and spicy fruity flavors typical in a Belgium triple. Some hop flavor. Light tanginess in the mouth. Finished dry with light hop bitterness. Alcohol well hidden. Well-balanced with slight edge toward hop flavor (not bitterness). An excellent Belgian style ale.

<!-- i -->December 2004 bottling.<!-- /i --> Hazy orange body, thin-medium off-white head. Oaky aroma with caramel, white grape, tropical fruits, and biting alcohol. Fruity, peachy body, with coconut and bourbon, pineapple, white grape, and caramel, complex with good oak character. Alcohol not too hot. Some butterscotch. Rich, thick body but not syrupy. Very nice beer- complex and not overpowering.
