JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 18, 2006 Pale Yellow-orange; some transparant head. Beautiful Bourbon nose, but restrainded to a very good balance with subtle spicyness and chalk. Sweet, vinous & alcoholic, malty despite the lagering, serious punch. ROB, thís is what you should’ve brought to Belgium. This is something to challenge the best of Belgium with. Powerful, burning, punch and yet not agressive MF. I’m impressed. WOW. This is by far the best I’ve had from Allagash. Despite the Bourbon influence, it is definitely complex in a layered way. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 18, 2006 Bottle from Super Saver in Somerville, NJ. This one pours turbid dark straw/orangish gold in color with a frothy, 2-finger head. The aroma is dark fruity and very hopcitric, with some spicy cobwebby floral notes and an undercurrent of oaky bourbony fruits. Intense, complex aroma. The taste is fruity and hopcitric at first, and gets spicy and floral as it warms. The fruit and citrus remain throughout, but the bourbon element becomes more pronounced as it warms. The palate is lively and complex. This is a great beer. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Apr 15, 2006 Sample at the 4th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Beer pours a hazy light-to-medium gold color with a small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing head. The aroma is lightly malty with notes of toasted grain and caramel; hoppy with traces of herbs and light notes of lemon; yeasty with light notes of barnyard and horseblanet; light miscellaneous notes of banana and clove, moderate notes of spicy alcohol and heavy notes of oak. The net effect is kind of like a spicy fruitcake aroma—yum! The flavor was heaily sweet, lightly bitter with a lightly sweet, moderately bitter finish. The body was full, the texture was velvety and the carbonation was lively with a moderate-to-heavy alcoholic feel in the finish. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Apr 14, 2006 Hazy golden body with a moderate head. Aroma was oaked with notes of various fruits. Flavor is the same, very smooth from the oak aging... but the oak character dominates everything else. It lost a lot of its character, but you’d never guess 11% either. Good, not great. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA Apr 11, 2006 Updated: Apr 12, 20062006. nice head strange brew inded. bourbon taste not overwelming the belgian taste it has going on, almost a cider taste to it with its sweetness and color fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Apr 11, 2006 Updated: Jun 6, 20082008-05-30, bottled November 2006, 8-4-9-4-17=42 Cloudy blond color. Both aroma and flavor have a touch of oaky and smokey vanilla; medium sweet flavor, that combines well with the barrel. Excellent.
