(Bottle, bottled in September 2009, 20111022) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had honey, vanilla, raisins and fruitiness. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were honey, raisins, vanilla, sweetness, malts and low bitterness. Aftertaste had raisins, sweetness and bitterness. Very good trippel and the barrel aging effects weren’t too strong.

August, 2011 750ml Bottle; Pour is murky medium gold with an average white head in this tulip - retention is fairly nice, actually. Light, spotty lacing is present. The nose comes through with Tripel notes of fruits and grains, but the vanilla earthiness from the bourbon barrels end up dominating. I feel like that represents the flavor profile as well - it doesn’t feel quite balanced, but it feels like a great beer, overall. Perhaps with some age... Anyway - there is a fruitiness present here , like peach skins - coupled with fresh grains, bread, vanilla pods, bourbon, and oak tannins - a nice attempt, for sure.

tap at Lord Hobo in Cambridge - The aroma is of alcohol and bourbon. The sweet flavor is dominated by the bourbon. There’s Belgian yeast in there and other flavors subdued by the bourbon. I don’t know if I get an unusual batch that was heavier on bourbon or my palate was odd as I usually like the barrel aging more. This brew was good but my expectations were higher.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 dinkle50 (227) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 9, 2011
Orange color with a creamy white head. Head fades fast and leaves a little lacing. Sweet in flavor. Taste and smell is bananas with a little honey. Super strong flavor with a slight alcohol burn. The bourbon barrel aging adds a hint of after taste at the end.

Split a 750ml bottle. Poured a golden yellow color, thick white head. Aroma was bourbon, vanilla, barrel. Flavor was pretty enjoyable, vanilla, bourbon, woody-barrel notes. Good, but pricey.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 durhambeer (2028) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 8, 2011
On tap at the Crunkleton in Chapel Hill. Pours slightly hazy golden with a generous white head. Nose is a tripel leaning toward a Belgian blonde with just the right amount of bourbon barrel. Orange and light lemon notes, Belgian yeast and mild candied sugars, white pepper and wood. Taste is similarly well balanced. Great palate and a lovely experience.

A: The beer pours a slightly hazed golden straw color with a finger of white head.
S: Some bourbon and oak does come through, but it’s more vanilla and tripel. Lots of spice notes to it with a nice banana and pear flavor. Plenty of sweet malt, mostly bread, and a bit of candi sugar.
T: As with the aroma, not the most intense bourbon flavor. Again, a decent vanilla note, though. I do get some sweet fruits (mostly banana) and a bit of spice character (mostly clove). Again, a fairly strong dose of sweet malt.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
O: Would have preferred a bit more bourbon flavors, but still very nice.
