oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Mar 2, 2006 Pours a hazy golden yellow color. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, yeast, some fruit and spice. Taste is yeasty and medicinal, can really taste the alcohol in this one. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Mar 1, 2006 Unclear yellow with a white head. Sharp fruity and woody aroma with whisky characters and vanilla tones - interesting! Vanilla, oak, orange flavor. Sweet with a sour edge. Full and dry on the tongue. Nice. Krausen (102), USA Feb 18, 2006 The nose has citrus, vanilla and some lambic like rough character. The body is very malty with some fruity characteristics and finishes with a creamy rich softness. Really, there is a lot going on in this beer! As it warmed I got a bad wet sock flavor that was quite unpleasant. The carbonation was pretty low as well. Don’t get me wrong, this beer was really good and worth seeking out and with some time in the cellar will be exceptional. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Feb 14, 2006 Bottling: July 2005
The beer after it’s disemboguing from the 22-ounce cork and caged bottle sets in the glass a honeyed gold color, the head is meaningful in size, the texture creamy and the color a pleasant off white, after its depletion, the lace forms a fine coating upon the glass. Nose has a citrus like crispness, hints of alcohol, corn, and a vanilla like tone, quite a sniffer this one, start is somewhat sweet with a purposeful grain profile, the top is middling in its feel to the palate. Finish is sternly acidic, the hops bashed by the alcohol, quite dry, vinous, and a definite tummy warming noticed, a real “Hoot”, just got to love the brewers at Allagash, they certainly know how to put together one hell of a line of beers.
brewblackhole (1367), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Feb 13, 2006 Tapper served in a tulip glass. Creamsicle aroma with alcohol overtones, vanilla ,citrus ,and assorted sweet spicing, with a distinct bourbon enhancement, but nowhere near as much as I had heard was in the bottled version. Very good brew. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Feb 12, 2006 Cloudy gold, nice thick foamy head. Aroma is a mix of vanilla, orange, bourbon and poundcake. Flavor is a nice mix af sweet and spicy, with an overriding bourbon flavor throughout. The best way to describe it it that it taste exactly likw what you imagine a tripel aged in bourbon barrels would taste like. Interesting, but ultimately the flavors don’t meld as much as I’d like. Purchased at Greenlife grocery, Asheville NC. October 05 bottling (11%) bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2006 this is really, really good. I’m impressed with the oak barrell non-whiskey flavor. I’ve had just a few of these beers and this is by far the best. Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Feb 8, 2006 Updated: Sep 11, 20082005 Vintage. I know I am drinking this a bit young--it was obvious that this beer has great aging potential. Very light gold color with a small, dense head. Muted "Belgian" fermentation aromas with a bit of sweetness and oak. These same qualities appeared in the flavor as well along with some vanilla and alcohol notes. Somewhat closed off but still quite interesting with a very smooth mouthfeel.
