Sweet and smooth, this beer poured a deep gold color w/ yellow highlights. The head was thin and no lacing. The aroma had a sweetness to it and hints of citrus and wood. The flavor had a smooth wood texture and banana sweetness.

Let me start out by saying that I think that the Allagash Tripel is one of if not the best tripel in the world. Hazy apple cider body topped by a gorgeous pillowy white head with excellent glass lacing. Appearance is still world-class. The aroma is heavy on bourbon, oak and vanilla. The light fruity complexity of the original is gone, though this is not a bad aroma. The flavor is more of the same as the aroma. The bourbon barrel aging is dominating the actual beer. There are glimmers of the great beer that lies at the heart of this beer but ther are overwhelmed. The palate is full and alcoholic, though not in a bad way. While I like this beer, it is a shadow of its untampered self.

Light orange gold color. Small to medium head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, touches of orange and pineapple and wood. A medium bodied triple. Malts are fruity and sweet, oranges, apricots and pineapples. Nice bright yeast. Oak flavor only evident in the finish, were it smoothes out the aftertaste and complements the yeasts well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet. Thanks to Herbjones for sharing this one.

Thanks Bob for sharing. This brew pours with a slightly cloudy golden body topped by a thick lasting head with great lacing. The aroma and flavor are both slightly sweet and slightly bitter with notes of citrus a little oak, some alcohol and a little vanilla. Medium bodied, smooth and dry.

Pale gold sitting under a frothy white head. Kind of surprised by that as I would have expected the brew to have darkened up a little in the barrel. Big bourbon nose. Very good example of what barrel aging should accomplish. The beer hits the tongue very tripel-ish. Still maintains the fruit and spice of the original brew with the woody whiskey flavors hitting near the middle and riding it out to the finish. Excellent brew.

Bottle, thanks to herbjones for sharing this at the Pizza Port 8th Strong Ale Festival. A very interesting take on the style, the barrel aging adds an aspect of woodiness to this bready, yeasty citrus brew. Elegant and smooth with the high abv well hidden. Very nice.

bright and hazy schoolbus colored with a lacey, honeycombed head atop...buttery, leathery, and slightly barnyardish aroma with just a touch of citrusy lemon...subtle buttery biscuit flavors, alcohol heat, some straw and yeasty flavors too. A very smooth and relaxing beer.

UPDATED: APR 13, 2007 re-rate 13 April 2007 This is very nice. The beer hits your palate w/ carbonation and smooths it then follows it w/ creaminess. The aroma is musty, but the flavor has some nice vanilla cream notes -------& draft, strong ale fest, pizza port carlsbad december 2004. Thanks to herbjones for sharing clear golden, nice flavor, more like a trippel than a strong ale

11.11.04 750ml bottle thanks to maibockaddict. Hazed, golden, thin, white head. Room filling aromas of vanilla, tropical fruit; mouth watering. Full palate yet still very fine carbonation is a lovely feel. Golden raisin, dried tropical trail mix. Many wood notes. Whiskey retronasal. It’s hard to find theTripel Reserve (my fav brew) under all this new complexity, but it’s still a lovely experiment; I’d be willing to try Allagash’s experiments with my favorite beer no matter what they try. This one’s good but I don’t think it’s better, just different.

Gotta thank Atomic Danny for this one. Thick, sweet, rich and complex ale. Some yeast, not too much oak coming through, bourbon essence works. Novel brew, but a bit pricey.
