Wasn’t sure what to expect. Overall I’m not a fan of "bourbon barrel" (insert drink or food here). I don’t particularly like bourbon (I like beer), but I do like Allagash. Happily, my fears were unfounded. Spice, citrus, and a little wood in the aroma. More of the same in the flavor, but in a pleasantly smooth and subtle way. Even the alcohol (11 percent!) doesn’t overpower. Another really good effort from one of my favorite breweries.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 joebudzjoe (451) - Connecticut, USA - JUL 28, 2011
Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza, Stamford, CT. Maybe it is due to its improper glassware (served in a mason jar), but I was unable to enjoy this beer. Too heavy and bready for my tripel likings and there was a very strong tangerine flavor that masked any possible flavor in the beer.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 SPDickerman (326) - Texas, USA - JUL 26, 2011
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2011 2011 Vintage (11%ABV). Pours hazy golden orange with a small white head. Smells exceptional; hints of spices (coriander) and faint hops and vanilla from the bourbon barrels. Tastes like a smoother Belgian Tripel, with vanilla and some alcohol on the back end. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and present mouth-carbonation, Allagash Curieux finishes with faint sweetness and alcohol burn.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 halfonit (929) - Fall River, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 24, 2011
Pours a cloudy light golden color with a thick head. Aroma is of spices, orange peels, oak, vanilla, and coriander. Flavor definitely has a bit of citrus, with spices (clove & coriander), vanilla, oak, and nutmeg. This one seems to be a little bit more champagne(y) than other tripels. Just slightly over carbonated. Overall, though, this was a pleasant brew.

From GRBNY. The aroma is whiskey, fruity, sweet. The appearance is hazy yellow, white head. The flavor is whiskey again, malty, fruity. The finish is a nice booze warming. Signature of Jim Beam is all throughout this beer. Medium in body. Quite good.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dbarnold (574) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - JUL 21, 2011
Careful, this one will knock you on your ass if you aren’t ready. Dark and full yellow, much less head and lacing than a normal tripel. Extremely smooth and sweet, such as a tripel, but with a lot of oakiness on top. It’s a little thicker than a normal tripel and I strongly suggest letting it warm up a bit, you’ll get a lot more flavor that way.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Jesterdeal (417) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - JUL 20, 2011
Aroma of champagne, sour dough, and lemon. Pours light orange with a small foamy head. Heavily carbonated. Tastes of champagne, sour malts and a little creme. Tasty and tart.

On tap at The Neighborhood San Diego. Medium head nice lacing and cloudy yellow. Aroma of blended whiskey predominates and carries to taste but beer carries it really well and masks alcohol. Beer base is reminiscent of a spicy Belgian white with coriander and citrus.
