Schroppfy (1733), Ohio, USA May 5, 2005 I expected this to be a bourbony mess and I could not have been more wrong. As a second big beer of the night, I was impressed with the balance of wood (never too tindery) flavors and caramel sweetness with just a touch of bourbon. Great, and I mean great, mouthfeel, slippery and smooth and just hefty enough to linger. Enjoyed with Jsturm and our buddy Nick, along with a bunch of Jolly Pumpkins and Fantomes on a night that is now hazy a month later - well actually it was hazy the next day...
Suds_McDuff (1019), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston,TX, Texas, USA Sep 28, 2008 time for a party, a fresh bottle of barrel aged trippel, bought at the downtown specs ... . bottled on June 8th 2008 ... pours a gold colour, has a ring of small bubbles, average lacing ... is somewhat mead like i tell ya what ... is a tasty beverage, thank you.. smith4498 (370), Miami, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 January 2007 vintage. Pours hazy golden orange with minimal white head. The smell of boubon dominates. There is also a strong aroma of bready Belgian yeast. Flavors of bourbon, yeast, vanilla and oak. There is definately a tripel hinding somewhere underneath all that bourbon. Medium body with lively carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. It’s a good beer, but the bourbon is just too overpowering for my tastes. TeamTrappist (167), jericho, New York, USA Sep 25, 2008 Tap at Sunswick. Poured a dark amber. The nose was on the weak side, or was it the glass that i detected? Of course the bourbon was noticed, that’s what stood out. At first, I was not too impressed, all I tasted was the bourbon, and some wood notes. I found the mouthful fairly thin. Mind you, I really like the Allagash triple. The bourbon really dominates, and hides the flavors of the triple. It did start to grow on me. The finish had a bit of a bite to it. sebletitje (362), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 24, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Tony @ OTH.
Pours an opaque blonde, white head.
Aroma is hoppy, yeasty with some underlying sweetness.
Taste is very sweet, has a good presence of oak and fruits (apple/apricot), gariny, thick mouthfeel, vanilla notes.
One outstanding abbey beer. ilovedarkbeer (754), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle Courtesy of BMan113VR. Pours a cloudy dandelion honey color with a nice creamy and puffy white head. Small tiny bubbles ascend from the bottom of the glass in little bursts. Nose is apricots, grass, hay, salt, green peas, and a bit of booze. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky with a bit of a bite on the back end that reminds me of a barrel aged stout. Its acidic yet lively feeling. Taste is sweet and woody, and fruity with some hints of good old of Jim Beam soaked sunflower seeds on the finish. Solid beer all around.
