3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 17, 2010
A Mes rate. Bottle at Chris O’s "Has anyone seen my stool?" tasting. Clean yellow gold with a thin white head. Full on bourbon and booze all round. Not something I would usually go for by any means but what little beery character there was poking through the booze and coconut was pretty decent. Light bitterness initially that is swiftly assassinated to death by a truck load of sweet warming alcohol. Sweet woody finish. As I was drinking this, a piece of ceiling maybe 9 foot by 6 foot fell down on the tasting. The noise was incredible and the entire room was filled with a thick dust cloud. As the dust settled, with no one daring to move yet, there appears Jan Fonefan like a Phoenix from the flames with one hand covering his glass and the other covering this bottle. Amazing composure. Not one glass nor one bottle was broken. There were a few cuts and bruises but generally it was a miracle that there were no serious injuries.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopdog (7037) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 19, 2007
On tap at TDR in Springhouse, PA. Poured a medium and slightly hazy golden color with a smaller sized white head. Aromas of bourbon (not overpowering), vanilla, pears, grapes, and just all around fruity. Tastes of the same with a medium alcohol burn in the finish. I liked the way the barrel aging was done.

2006 bottle. Hazy/cloudy yellow/gold colour wiht a thin white head. Beautiful aroma, vanilla/bourbon oaky character that backs up a soft sweet Belgian malt base. Orange citrus, some soft rummy notes in the nose as well. Flavour is surprisingly well integrated. Sweet chewy malt, some honey, toffee and vanillla. Light bourbony flavour, black pepper and a nice sweet spicy yeast profile. Cardamom and clove appear briefly behind the soft bourbon. The beer has good balance. It’s clearly barrel-aged, yet the tripel character also comes through and isn’t clobbered by the bourbon or the oak. I’m still not certain that barrel-aging is the best option for these lighter styles, but this one come pretty close to changing my mind.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CaptainCougar (6833) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - OCT 10, 2004
GABF 2004: Pours a clear pale golden with a frothy white lacing head. Sweet curacao orange peel citrus and honey bourbon aroma. Body starts with a full Belgian malty thick sweetness and interesting citrus spice balance. Finishes bittersweet, crisp and dry with a nice yeasty oak complexity. A very unique and enjoyable beer. Allagash sure knows how to do Belgian ales.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 JorisPPattyn (6710) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - APR 18, 2006
Pale Yellow-orange; some transparant head. Beautiful Bourbon nose, but restrainded to a very good balance with subtle spicyness and chalk. Sweet, vinous & alcoholic, malty despite the lagering, serious punch. ROB, thís is what you should’ve brought to Belgium. This is something to challenge the best of Belgium with. Powerful, burning, punch and yet not agressive MF. I’m impressed. WOW. This is by far the best I’ve had from Allagash. Despite the Bourbon influence, it is definitely complex in a layered way.

June 2008 bottle (11%). Pours with a chill hazed yellow gold body. Pours with a largish, fluffy, off-white head with good lacing and retention. Aroma of sweet fruits (appricots and peaches mostly), vanilla, bourbon oak notes, alcohol and bread. Taste is sweet with strong alcohol and fruits with a light bourbon burn. The bourbon rounds out the tripel flavor quite well. Pours with a light carbonation livelyness and lightly creamy. Beats the pants of Musette for the price.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6380) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 8, 2004
GABF 2004 - Cloudy golden color, with a medium sized white head. Spicy and sweet lemons, coriander aromas. Harsh and sweet barnyard and sour wood flavor, lambic-esque... Fresh tasting, and a little soapy in the finish.
