I had the Curieux on draft at Monks in Philadelphia. This was a very interesting tripel. It had a very oaky taste at the start b8ut as it warmed I started to note more vanilla and subtle fruitness. Overall I was left impressed with this tripel from Allagash.

16oz wide mouth glass, the aroma is very woody, you can smell the high percentage of alcohol, nice solid layer of foam bout 1/4 inch, Vanilla taste that stands out, amber, clear, frothy, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, medium body, slick feel, lively, one thing for sure is that the alcohol at 11% hides very well and it hits you good! cheers!,

I got to try this beer on tap and out of the bottle. This was poured on draft into a footed tulip glass. The beer carries fruity aromas of pineapple, candied peaches, musky oak and buttered popcorn. On the palate, it is appetizingly sweet and creamy with some oaky pear, peach, candied tropical fruit and some taffy. Sipping this beer is like drinking a very good, unprocessed fruit juice (among other things). This is an adequately complex beer to begin with, but the barrel rounds out the fruity flavors in the beer and wraps them in an oaky, candylike coating which contributes to its sophisticated nature. First class!

Sampled and then bought directly from the brewery. Golden brown to a loose white head, strong oak aroma that lends well to the taste as well. Thinner mouthfeel, lightly hopped just like their true belgian attempts, this was a nice twist to the line and very enjoyable.

Ok, i would have loved to get a taste of the oak (or even the alchohol) everyone else seems to taste in this stuff, yeah sure it’s a fine beer, but I paid near 20$ for a bottle, considering you can get a damn fine avery or belgian import for considerably less,it makes me wonder,WHAT THE HELL???? is Allagash thinking, are they strapped for cash or just living in a fantasy world.where do they come up with these price tags?

On tap and in bottle. Takes belgian tripel style to the next level. In addition to the excellent taste of a tripel, the barrel-aging process is apparent with strong undertones of wood, smoke, and bourbon. A bit on the dry side, and the high alcohol is apparent in a satisfying way. A prime example of why Allagash is such an amazing brewery because on top of doing amazing recreations of classic belgian styles, they add experimental methods like this to add flavors never experienced before, that always result in an amazing beer.

If you’ve ever wondered where bourbon gets its flavor, here’s the answer. This beer, aged in bourbon barrels smells perfectly whisky-ish. There’s a touch of bread in the nose, maybe a hint of orange-flower, but basically, this is the soul of bourbon turned into a beer. Best for contemplative, after-dinner drinking.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2009 Pours golden brown with a light head. It has a sweet smell that I didn’t notice at first. Tastes like keg beer to me. I can’t taste bourbon. The taste was very nice once it warmed up a little. This beer shouldn’t be drunk ice cold. It is strong so two glasses later what it taste like won’t matter. I would happily drink this again if offered.

Pours a hazy deep gold with minimal head and modest lacing. Alcohol, vanilla, mango, and papaya to the nose. Taste is well balanced with malt, hops, and tropical fruit flavors melding together with the noticeable alcohol content. Great mouthfeel, very smooth and well carbonated.

01/2012 bottling, 750ml. Pours a hazy amber-orange with a frothy white head. Aroma is mostly of lightly toasted malt and yeast, with a touch of floral hop and citrus. Taste is mostly sweet and midly bitter with a touch of sour. Mouth feel is on the light side of medium bodied with a silky texture. Lively carbonation and a heafty alcohol bite that brings out the bourbon barrel influence. Finishes with just a touch bitter and sour, but with a sting and woody sensation, again really highlighting the barrel aging.
