Hazed gold, quickly disappearing white head. Interesting nose as it warmed with minty vanilla, bourbon and oak, fuzzy fruits, hint of tropical fruit, and spices. Alcohol dominates the first few sips, but melds into a fruity, woodsy, bourbon like concoction. Full bodied, fizzy carbonation, super dry alcohol laden finish. It was a nice experiment, but don’t think this style is suited for bourbon barrels. Just seemed to detract from the greatness of their original. However, with that being said, I still thought it was a very nice brew for sharing and sippin...

Hazy gold pour, very bright. White head and spotty lace. WHisky aroma. Sticky palate. Big oak, bourbon, and leather. Very sweet but the bourbon seems to balance that out

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a towering white head. Oaky, whiskey aroma, but soft with a sweetness suggesting honey. Sweet malty palate with dominant vanilla oaky tones, honey, spices, and a leathery woodiness in the finish. Absolutely delicious!

On tap at Churchill’s Pub in San Marcos, CA. Thick golden with large white head. Aroma full of esters and alcohol. Taste with too hot, Sort of sticky on the tongue. But had a good malty sweetness with vanilla and a very, very slight bourbon aged flavor. I thought the age was done very well, very subtly. Overall, too hot made it not as enjoyable as I would’ve wished.

Golden body with minimal head, aroma of chardonnay and grapes with funky earth/wood hints. Didn’t catch any bourbon in the nose, but the oaks is definitely there. Flavor is all oak, honey and maltiness. Pretty smooth but still looking for the bourbon. This beer tasted a bit young, a little age would do it well.

Rating #400. 750 ml March 2008 bottle split in Westmalle chalice. Hazy orange with lasting flat white head and some lace. Honey candy sugar and ripe orange aroma with a touch of wood and alcohol burn. Honey and ripe orange and ripe peach and mild wood, presumably with a hint of bourbon but I don’t drink bourbon so to me it tastes like wood and alcohol and mixed bitter ripe fruit with lingering candy sugar and alcohol finish. Medium-full body and medium-low carbo, but lacks the soft moouthfeel of the best belgians. Still, complex and interesting. Probably was better at 9.5%. I don’t like to taste alcohol in my beers.
