Boutip (1815), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Feb 2, 2006 Bottle: Poured a hazy (real hazy, I just can’t see through my glass) golden color ale with a medium bubbly white head with minimum retention. Aroma of bourbon is quiet easy to detect but also some real funky yeast is present which remind of a saison or even a lambic without the sourness though. Taste is a bit too sharp in alcohol at first, which kind of ruin it for me since I don’t like the warming feeling. But you get used to it and it seems to disappear (or I might just be getting drunk) and then I can see some traces of a nice abbey tripel with a strong yeast profile, which provide a farmhouse side that I really enjoyed. Overall, probably not something I would go for on a regular basis but I still enjoyed. If I was to rate on experiment alone though, I would have rated this much higher since I appreciated the fact that Allagash tried to do something different.
mtdshn (163), Moline, Illinois, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bomber, bottled 7/2005 and cellared since 10/2005. Poured a translucent honey orange with just a tiny bit of head. Aromas of whiskey, caramel, some heavy bread notes. Mouthfeel is heavy, with yeast and whiskey coming out in the forefront. vyvvy (1756), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Oct 9, 2008 Pours clear orange / amber with a patchy off-white head. The aroma is creamy with spice and a nice blend of tripel malt and bourbon barrel aging. There is also vanilla and significant oak from the barrel aging. Medium smooth body that is slick with mildly sharp carbonation. The flavor starts smooth with lots of vanilla, oak, some bourbon, phenolic spice and some lush tripel malt. The finish has more tripel malt, but the sweetness is offset by the dryness of oak, lots of spice and some abv, but it is mild tasting considering it is 11%. This is quite well done. Suds_McDuff (1021), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston,TX, Texas, USA Sep 28, 2008 time for a party, a fresh bottle of barrel aged trippel, bought at the downtown specs ... . bottled on June 8th 2008 ... pours a gold colour, has a ring of small bubbles, average lacing ... is somewhat mead like i tell ya what ... is a tasty beverage, thank you.. smith4498 (382), Miami, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 January 2007 vintage. Pours hazy golden orange with minimal white head. The smell of boubon dominates. There is also a strong aroma of bready Belgian yeast. Flavors of bourbon, yeast, vanilla and oak. There is definately a tripel hinding somewhere underneath all that bourbon. Medium body with lively carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. It’s a good beer, but the bourbon is just too overpowering for my tastes. TeamTrappist (169), jericho, New York, USA Sep 25, 2008 Tap at Sunswick. Poured a dark amber. The nose was on the weak side, or was it the glass that i detected? Of course the bourbon was noticed, that’s what stood out. At first, I was not too impressed, all I tasted was the bourbon, and some wood notes. I found the mouthful fairly thin. Mind you, I really like the Allagash triple. The bourbon really dominates, and hides the flavors of the triple. It did start to grow on me. The finish had a bit of a bite to it.
