Pours a bit murky amber on a thicker body with a light tan head. The aroma is right up my alley, funky Brett at a peak point for aroma with a light sweetness to help complement it. The flavor is the perfect balance of Brett yeast funk and sour with a bit of tart settling on the end

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2011 (Drank as Ghoulschip.) Never would I imagine giving such a high score to a damned pumpkin beer. But here we are, with Allagash striking the perfect balance between a lovely sour ale and a nutty, sweet pumpkin brew. Which means, of course, there’s a good bit of sour and not much pumpkin. But there is a toasty, nutlike backbone to the sourness, while the molasses oozes through on the finish, rounding out the oak with a textured, lovely fade. One of the first beers we opened at this year’s War on Christmas Beer Party, supplied by Yonke, and it might be top three of the night.

From a ghoulschip bottle at Where the Wild Beers Are. Incredible aroma of pumpkin pie spices and funk. Flavor is the same--spicy and sour. Well done.

Andrewsdad thank you for this want! Nice sour smell with a little nit of pumpkin towards the end. Looks hazy yellow with white head all over the place. Nice sourness all the way throughout. Little bit of a cock tease with the pumpkin. This beer is about 6 months old so would like to try it fresh

Tap at the Blind Tiger. Fantastic. Bretty, horsey, peanut aroma, with some rich oak and barnyard, with minor pumpkin squash and a touch of spice. Fluffy head, very pale pour; not the typical orange of most pumpkin beers. Flavor is super rich, nutty, with subtle pumpkin and no spice. A touch of wine from the oak. Deeply complex and just awesome to drink. Excellent!

Woo-hoo, rating #1. On tap at Blind Tiger. Very hazy yellow-golden brew topped by a thick creamy white head. Aroma is very musty and minerally with nice bretty perfumey notes. Lots of crisp wheaty spiciness along with a touch of pumpkiny spice over that. Very interesting brew. Warming brings up a bit more pumpkiny aroma over that bretty/boney/minerally nose that invites me to drink even more of it. Mmmm, wow, this is great. The flavour is quite sticky/chewy initially but beyond that, there is a lot of pumpkin flavour. Sort of wheaty with the pumpkin playing a dominent role. Light cinnamon/clove but none of the typical allspice that seems to define this style. The aroma is more intense than the flavour, which comes across quite sweet and a little bit starchy. Also some lightly honeyish flavour, but with loads of bretty flavour as well and a bit of lingering citrus. I really hope they bottle this, because the brett is only starting to dry this out... another four to five months and this will really come into it’s own. A very unusual take on the style. It’s like they did a cereal mash with loads of pumpkin, fermented it, then spiked it with brett. Man, I love these guys... another solid brew.

A Sim rate (EBF Night of the Barrels): Sour cherry flavour with a sweet aroma. Very delightful with a sour finish.

375mL tossed into the Tilquin tumbler. Ruddy burnt orange, almost opaque. Not much carbonation. Light funk, hay, some vinegar...slightly reminds me of Interlude’s nose. Tase is out of this world...berry seeds, light notes of currant, some gourd, brett, and a dubbel’s malt bill. Medium, slick mouthfeel that keeps the beer on the tounge. A bit dry, earthy, and suprisingly mellow. Very interesting wild from Allagash, would love to revisit in a year or so.

Tap at Max’s. Pours lightly hazy amber with a medium, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is acetic vinegar and cherry with light caramel malt and fruity esters. Flavor is sour fruits with light malt and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth and carbonation.
