Commercial Description:
Musette is Allagash's next release in its Barrel Aged Series. It is Allagash's interpretation of a Belgian-inspired Scotch Ale. Following fermentation with a Belgian strain of yeast, a portion of it is aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels for an additional three months.

750 ml bottle. Pours a rich mahogany with a rather disappointing tan head. Somewhat musty woody nose with a slight tartness. Medium to heavy body. Rich malty body with little bitterness to balance things out - inline with a Scotch Ale. Smooth finish with a lingering sweetness.

Draught, ’07 vintage, @ BTAH VSK. Pours very hazy brown, with a thin, creamy off-white head and solid lacing. Nose is cocoa nibs and Belgian yeast, bit spicy, just a hint of pear. Lively carbonation up front. Bit yeasty, with an interesting melding of roast, cocoa, and sweet golden fruit - candied pair dipped in coca powder. Finish is fruity, bit of yeast, tiny bit dry. Mouthfeel is med-light, crisp carbonation. Dry.

9/17/08 - 750 ml bottle, courtesy of Naka, shared with Exec Board/ Pours amber with fizzy, white head. Sweet caramel nose with mild orange and spice. Taste is yeasty, bready, sourdough notes with estery fruit, raisin, some mild oak and odd hop character and bitterness. Tastes better as it warms. Pretty decent.

Pours a deep opaque amber color with a small fizzy cream-colored head. Smells of brown sugar, dried apricot, and a little yeast. Strong fruity esters from the Belgian yeast. Some caramel and over all Scotch bite to it. Very smooth for the high ABV. Very warming. Finishes a little dry with a slight bourbon note. Rich body. Very good.

Thanks to Naka for sharing! Clear copper body with a thin white head. Smells spicy, sweet, caramel, o-zone, and buttery. Interesting, clean, crisp, oaky taste. Really cool and interested. Caramel, bread, sweet clove and maple syrup notes. Reminds a lot of Scotch Silly.
