Jul 30, 2008 Draught. Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights and a big, tan head. Aroma is cocoa, roasty, a bit nutty and molasses. Taste is sweet and malty, molasses and brown sugar, a bit spicy, roasty and cocoa. Finish is a bit dry. Fairly crisp carbonation, creamy and full bodied. Very unique take, delicious.

Jul 22, 2008 Bottle. Chocolate, coffee, dried dark fruits, roastiness, alcohol sweetness, sweet prunes. Low carbonation, but not syrupy. An unusual dubbel. Not bad.

Jul 22, 2008 Bottle at Milltown. Pours a dark hazy ruby with a two finger creamy light tan head. The nose is sweet, malty, lightly spicy, earthy, Belgian, and rusty. The flavor is sweet, malty, spicy, lightly warm, tastes rusty. Crisp and malty palate.

Jul 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/amber with a small light tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, fruits, yeast, and peanut butter. Flavor strongly of nuts, with some roasted malt, dark fruits, alcohol. I had this on tap awhile ago and really enjoyed this, but having it now, out of a bottle, it was uninspiring. Just ok for me.

Jul 14, 2008 4-Pack that recently showed up, I’ve liked what I’ve had from Allagash so far so I didn’t need any convincing to give this a try. Dark, fruity malt aroma with an earthy/grainy quality partnered with mild spices. Deep amber pour with a 1/4" foamy head and great lacing. Hearty with a complex finish that leaves this beer clean and drinkable. Solid flavors of figs, raisins, and musty yeast. Some toasted malt and toffee was also noticed along with a bit of coffee and licorice. Not overly complex for it’s style, a solid offering.

Jul 11, 2008 75cl bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark cloudy brown with a thin white/tan head with minimal lacing on the glass. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar, candy sugar, yeast. Flavor is roasted malt, brown sugar, some spice, yeast, bread. Medium-bodied with a smooth finish. Nice ale.
