hayduke (1619), Eureka, California, USA Feb 25, 2008 From a 750 ml C&C Bottle (#66) this poured the color of cranberry juice with a nice cream off-white head and great lacing. Simply beautiful. Nose iof fruit, chocolate, nuts, and caramel malts. Rich and smooth mouthfeel. Robust flavors with a long dry finish. Wonder if aging would have helped this, but this is the only bottle I had. McGarnigle (302), Rochester, New York, USA Feb 25, 2008 12 oz. bottle that doesn’t use the word "reserve," but I think it’s identical. Cloudy dark brown-orange with white head. Looks a bit like a Nitro can head with its small bubbles. Mouthfeel is the same way, with prominent but soft carbonation against a medium body. This is a pretty dry dubbel, some dark fruits, some anise. Yeasty too. Very drinkable, but I like Ommegang’s better. thewolf (5623), Kolding, Denmark Feb 25, 2008 Bottle @ Yespr tasting. [thank you, Storm]
Pours a wonderful, just slightly hazy red mahogany with a small creamy beige head. Super lacing. Aroma is sweet, some dried fruits and light chocolate. Okay creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is lightly roasted, light chocolate. Where is the dried fruits? Where is the yeasty complexity? This is no way a dubbel - drink 3 Westmalle dubbels instead! KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Feb 24, 2008 [Courtesy of Storm, session @ yespr] Clear brown with medium off white head. Roasted malt hits the nose with chocolate notes to follow. Flavor is light roasted with sweet and sour notes. Not a good dubbel. But an ok beer. Carl99Fan (186), Suwanee, Georgia, USA Feb 24, 2008 Pours umber color. Minimal white head. Dark fruit flavor with caramel presence. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Feb 23, 2008 750 ml bottle, off whote head that recedes to a thin layer with no lacing, cherry and malt nose, cotton candy and caramel body with little finish yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 22, 2008 75 cL bottle, thanks to Storm. Pours hasy brown with a lacing white head. Spiced caramel malt aroma. Flavour is roasted malt, light hoppy bitter with a subdued fruit note. Mellow yeasty note. Ends lingering spice finish. Nice. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Feb 21, 2008 bottle - Pours dark brown with a big, fluffy head. The aroma is of malt and yeast. The flavor is quite similar with the sweet malt accented just a little by fruit esters. It’s medium bodied and kind of bubbly. There needs to be some more flavor and complexity there though. Average, which makes it below average for a Belgian style.
