patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Feb 21, 2008 bottle - Pours dark brown with a big, fluffy head. The aroma is of malt and yeast. The flavor is quite similar with the sweet malt accented just a little by fruit esters. It’s medium bodied and kind of bubbly. There needs to be some more flavor and complexity there though. Average, which makes it below average for a Belgian style. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 20, 2008 Really enjoyed the Tripel Reserve but this one was flat and tasteless. Pretty deep amber with nice 1/2 inch bubbly head, the aroma was all raisons, prune, and fig. Taste is subtle chocolate and cashew...sounds good, right??? Unfortunately, drinking this liquid only made me more thirsty (to quench my palate and wash away what was left there). sstackho (249), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 19, 2008 12oz bottle consumed about six months after purchase, I’m guessing. I wasn’t sure how well this was going to age - I hadn’t realized this was bottle conditioned until I just looked it up now. Pours a murky brown with a bit of head. The aroma is malty with a bit of spice. The flavour follows exactly the same way, but with the spice more prevalent than was on the nose. Tastes in a similar vein to some winter seasonal beers that I’ve been having recently. Enjoyable stuff.
llbjr77 (72), Largo, Florida, USA Feb 18, 2008 A great ale! Nice dark color with a very pleasant aroma. Slight nutty/chocalate taste. No alcohol taste and a nice, light aftertaste. Will drink again! kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 Appeared brownish red with almost no head and no lacing. Malty aroma of sweet dried fruits and chocolate. Dry malty body, nutty. Light and biting palate.
Forgettable. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Feb 8, 2008 12oz - Poured like a flat Coca Cola, no flavor, it just sort of laid there, watery with no depth. Try harder Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Feb 5, 2008 Poured a turbid brown color with reddish orange highlights. A nice off-white head formed and hung around for quite a while, providing nice lacing. The aroma was lightly roasted malt, thin, thin chocolate and only a bit of yeastiness. The flavor is sweet and fruity and then cut but some chocolate and nutty maltiness. Average mouthfeel and average body. Not enough Belgian yeast and spice as far as I’m concerned. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 4, 2008 Bottle at Winking Lizard. Pours a dark brownish-amber color with a medium thick and foamy beige head that has decent retention. Patchy lacing on the glass. Dark fruit and light chocolate in the nose, with a touch of hops. Medium-bodied and smooth with a faint nutty character, and flavors of fruit, chocolate and malt. The finish is lightly spiced with a malty aftertaste that lingers awhile. Above average overall.
