Pours a dark brownish-amber color with a medium thick and foamy beige head that has decent retention. Patchy lacing on the glass. Dark fruit and light chocolate in the nose, with a touch of hops. Medium-bodied and smooth with a faint nutty character, and flavors of fruit, chocolate and malt. The finish is lightly spiced with a malty aftertaste that lingers awhile. Above average overall. corby112 (700), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Flavor is similar to aroma with hints of cherry and raspberry but also contains an awful syrupy medicinal robitussin taste that left a nasty after taste. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 28, 2008 750 ml bottle, Batch 66, Pours a light brown with amber edges and an angry off white head. Gobs of sticky lace clung to the glass for dear life. Mouthfeel was medium at best. Flavor was mildly spicey w/ a hint of that Belgian yeast. Mild taste of the dark fruits with just a hint of chocolate. If I ever buy another bottle, I will let it age just to see what happens. agl108 (503), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2008 Sampled at local homebrew club. Dark brown body, ruby edges with compact head. Smooth taste, notes of caramel and chocolate and didn’t really notice the alcohol, fell away on the finish. Drinkable but not totally impressed with this drop. There is nothing wrong with the beer, just seems a bit lackluster for a double. This was fairly clean with a bit of maltiness that was accompanied by a hint of fruit and just a tad of the characteristic spicy Belgian notes. I wonder if I got an old bottle, though with a double one would think that it would age well." Ingy (100), candler, North Carolina, USA
