Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Sep 3, 2007 A nice attempt at a Belgian. I say that because, unlike other NA makers of Belgian ales (Ommegang and Unibroue particularly), you don’t forget with this one that you are NOT drinking a "real" Belgian. The beer poured with a HUGE foamy head that was impressive. The mouthfeel was a tad on the carbonated side and the aroma was spicey. The taste was good...not overdone on Belgian sugary goodness...but a little lacking in complexity and fullness compared to the "real deal". A funky yeasty taste was also noticeable...with mild hops and spices discernible. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2007 Updated: Sep 24, 2007Mahogany with good, foamy head / Nose of malt, raisins, and caramel / Full, creamy body with great, lingering finish / Big flavors of toffee, coffee, chocolate, raisins, vanilla, and sour malt / Pretty much a textbook example of an excellent Belgian. derst27 (35), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA Sep 2, 2007 Pours a light golden amber. Smells of nuts and sports a light foamy head. The sweet malt flavor finishes vy smooth without an overly alcoholic taste. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 10/19/1997

wingman333 (233), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 22, 2007 I give this dubbel high marks...dark and rich yet silky smooth, it is as good as some of the Belgian imports yet more affordable. Raisin and chocolate flavors dominate. This gets better and better each time I drink it. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 21, 2007 Pours a blood amber with a small whitish head. Aroma is hoppy and malty with dark fruit. It has a darker fruit taste that is almost smoky with a slightly bitter and spicy finish. Easy drinking. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2007 25.4 oz bottle, batch 55. Clouded chestnut brown with a light tan, skin head. Lacy borealis. Sourish pumpernickel dough and brown sugar. Smooth body with light carb and a little toastiness. Mild carmelized orange. Allagash Reserves always solid with unique, but toned down, takes on style. elmatador00 (518), j-action-ville, North Carolina, USA Aug 8, 2007 Poured a dark opaque brown with a thin tan head. Has faint hints of malts, semi-sweet chocolate, and earthy taste. Finished with a thin dry taste of spices.
