| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Quite malty with with a nice array of baking spice flavors. My only complaint is that the flavors taste a little too light, I would prefer a little more oomph. Braincage1 (139), Cary, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 3, 2007 Bottle. River water look but with more light it is actually a nice red amber color with a thin tan head. Most noticeable in the aroma is the hop characteristic which is nicely paired with some dark fruits. Chocolate is also noticeable which is nice. The flavor is surprising - more like a stout than what I expected - sweet chocolate and coffee and a smoky taste covers the tongue. Very easy but boring flavor wise. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2007 Pours a deep red with a few floaties. Not as much carbonation as expected for a dubbel, but there is a good tan head present. Some raisin and Belgian farmhouse aroma but I get alot of nutty chocolate coming through, which is a little odd for this style. Sweet flavor that goes down very easily due to the low carbonation. Chocolate, nuts, and sweet fruitty malt flavors. Not what I would expect in a dubbel but this is damn tasty. cbeers21 (564), Miami, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 3, 2007 Dark brown with ample tan head and nice lacing. Heavy roasted malts aromas persist: coffee, chocolate, toffee as well as rounded fruit scents. Fruity and nutty flavors devlop as well as floral hops, delicate roasted malts, riasiny fig tastes with echoes of chocolate and vanilla. Nice mouthfeel, drinkable and a good example of the style. Pours a dark, murky brown with a medium sized off-white head. The scent is pleasent but hard to distinguish. The flavor is amazing - a smooth, refined blend of malts with a bit of some dark fruits. The finish is equally good as it slowly lingers in your mouth - excellent. This is truly at the top of the non-Belgian abbey ales and rivals even the Trappists if not in the overt complexity than the pure enjoyment of the brew.
