fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jun 25, 2007 Corked bottle; batch #55 Hazy dark brown color. The aroma is a bit nutty and corky. The flavor has a quite good mix of caramel with some malt and roasted malt, stronger character than the average Belgian Dubbel; the yeast as well seems to be Belgian. Quite Belgian, quite good. drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 22, 2007 Updated: Oct 8, 200712oz bottle with approx. 9months of age one it. pours murky light brown with small white head. nose is interesting, very faint but complex, all subtle notes of tropical fruits, pinnapple, dark fruits of plums, and very faint tobacco. flavor has toasted nuts and biscuit. soft dark fruits in finish. mouthfeel is med. body. carb. is smooth. pretty tasty..3.6.............................................................................................................................................rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. pours ruby with creamy off white head. nose of tobacco, caramel, nutty. flavor nutty, tobacco, caramel, mouth feel is watery, low carbonation. 3.0 MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 20, 2007 Updated: Jul 1, 2007On tap at Capone’s. Cloudy orange/copper. Taste was yeasty (banana), apple, raisin, with brown sugar and toffee sweetness. Almost quad-like. Syrupy and warm texture. Very nice.
I like the tap so well, I went out and bought a 750 bottle - Huge head. Aroma was dark fruit, brown sugar and dusty. Much more banana/yeast than I tasted on tap. Less fruity. Less impressive. Original rating was 3.8 for the tap, 3.5 for the bottle. Meet in the middle here. hellbilly (1492), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jun 20, 2007 super fluffy head that wouldn’t quit. nice caramel color. grainy aroma with some honey and yeast. alcohol burn on the nose. metallic/malty flavors with dried apricots and very little sweetness. there’s a chocolate and salted nut flavor that is hard to explain. more like the flavor and mouth feeling you get after you’ve eaten chocolate...but without the sugar. very well balanced but not overly complex. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jun 19, 2007 bottle labeled dubbel, not dubbel reserve. light smoky malts or toffee on the nose and wonderful lacing! reminds me of apricot or peach with a slight hoppy finish. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 19, 2007 Sampled at Capones on Allagash night with Stegosaurus. Dark pour with hints of bread and belgian spices. Caramel taste really smooth and blended well. Really good. Flyer (118), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA Jun 18, 2007 Pours a deep black-cherry red with a fair head. Classic fruity ale aroma. The taste is malty but clean, with some dried fruit (maybe a little peach) and more fruit creeping in at the end, only to be washed away by a solid, but not particularly intense hop finish. I would love to try this after it’s had a chance to mature, because right now it’s a good, solid dubbel, but it’s just not distinctive enough to grab my attention. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 18, 2007 (Bottle 75 cl) Hazy, brownish with a beige head leaving some laces. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dried fruit and some yeast. Medium body, lightly sweetish roasted malt. Fruity - also some dried fruit notes and a whiff of yeast and diacetyl. Slightly earthy tang but not enough to spoil the pleasure. 180607
