3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jcweaver (439) - VA Beach, Virginia, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Bottle. Pours a hazy red with a thick beige head. The aroma is mostly of malt sweetness but with a hint of straw from the hops. Flavor is also of sweet malts with some spice notes. Not very complex and not a favorite but drinkable.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Elwood (1965) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - SEP 27, 2011
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a murky amber brown with a thick head of off white foam. The nose has some dark fruit, apple cider, yeast, and candy sugar. The flavor leans towards the bready side with a little dried apple, whole wheat bread, spice, dark caramel, and yeast. Medium to rich in body with an abundance of very soft carbonation leading to an almost dry, slightly bitter finish. It’s been awhile since I’ve had one of these and it’s better than I remember.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 mrhoppy (649) - Santa Clara, California, USA - SEP 16, 2011
Toasty caramel coco spicy. Slightly too sweet up front. Nice small bitter finish. Smooth through out. Classy beer and very well made. Have had a few times and will have again. Addictive aroma matches finish.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 jimthechap (783) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 8, 2011
Hazy orange brown with a light tan head that thins, clings to the sides of the glass and departs. Not the best looking beer if I’m honest. Aromas of caramel, soap, chocolate eclairs... but then, there’s something that isn’t quite right. Maybe it’s because this beer is a long way from home. But well, if it finds its way here, then the least it should be is palatable. Intensely chocolately, powdered Swiss chocolate flavour. Short finish. Tastes much better than it smells, but then not a beer I’d go back for seconds on.

Cloudy brown with a bigger soapy light tan head. A yeasty wheaty aroma. Light fruit flavors with yeast. Gentle. Not bad.

Pours dark brown from bottle with a thin khaki head. Tastes of alcohol and raisins with a hint of malt. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner then I was expecting. Finish has a hint of vanilla as well.

Refrigerated 750 mL bottle poured into a trappist glass. Pours medium brown with big beige head. Medium lacing, medium body, and highly carbonated. Taste is dark candy sugar, slight off sour in the middle, and surprising hoppy finish.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 SPDickerman (424) - Texas, USA - AUG 19, 2011
Pours dark muddy brown with small tan fizz. Smells malty with strong fruity notes. Tastes malty and fruity with a touch of alcohol. Full-bodied with a slick texture and present mouth-carbonation, Allagash Dubbel Reserve finishes lightly dry like a red wine.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 strongpieman (795) - Mount Airy, Maryland, USA - AUG 16, 2011
Light brown color with some red, cloudy, almost no head. Aroma is sweet and I pick up cherries and malt. Taste is sweet but balanced. Full mouth feel but with carbonation. A nice beer on the sweeter side.

Pours a ruby/brown, with alight tan head. Aroma is sweet, malty, with a light note of dried fruit. Flavor of roasted malts, with caramel, dried fruit, and spices. Finishes dry with a little spices lingering.
