HumbertHumbert (77), Denver, Colorado, USA Apr 14, 2006 Poured dark brown with a pale tan head. Mild, smoky aroma with hops and some fruit. Ragged hops dominated the flavor, with a smoky background and some nice tropical fruits trying to come through. Also some fusel alcohols (maybe like vanilla extract). Bitter finish with a hint of pipe tobacco. Tmoney99 (4663), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 13, 2006 Bottle batch #38. Poured a hazy deep amber with a large off-white light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Complex malty and alcohol aroma. Medium body. Solid complex sweet malty flavor with a spicy soft alcohol finish of average duration. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 12, 2006 Deep amber, brown color, almost red in color. Fluffy and thick cream colored head. Aroma is extremely mild, and the mouth feel is crisp and bubbly. The aftertaste fades quickly, but leaves a little bitter chocolate reminder. A well crafted beer, would probably go well heavier foods (especially a burger with some blue cheese). atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA Apr 11, 2006 Pours a nice brown and sits a great dark garnet with a large pillowy off-white head and activity. The aroma is a winey fruit, a bit of yeast, and a pinch of alcohol with nice carmel and chocolate malts beneath. In addition to wine there are nice dark fruits in the aroma. There is astringency on the tongue. Lots of flavor. Strong malts, a tangy alcohol and a bit of fruit. The malts are both gristy and deep. Toasted carmel and hints of chocolate bow to a tangy feel that I think is helped by the slightest hint of alcohol. Nice body, great array of flavors and aromas. tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 1, 2006 Brown-red cloudy beer, with almost no head but some large bubbles that remain around the edge. Aroma is malty, fruity (raisins and cranberries) and spicy. The flavour is still spicy and malty, sweet. I cant taste a hint of bitter chocolate at the end of the sip. A good beer. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 1, 2006 Pours a very hazy ruddy brown with a thin head (with oddly big bubbles around the brim). Looks a lot like a barley wine. Upon closer inspection, it smells nothing like a barleywine! Spice and fruit (mostly cinnamon/cloves and cranberries/apples?), yeast, and undeniably sweet, though not in a malty way--though there is a hint of roast aroma. The mouth feel is a little loose, but fairly creamy in the mouth, not a complete pushover, especially with the slight alcohol warmth. The taste is undeniably sweet. Sublte roastiness, a touch of fruit, alcohol, and christmas spices round out this drinkable beer. The lingering bitterness seems to mostly be charcoal, though there are some other mingling fruity bitter notes that stick around. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Mar 27, 2006 Pours brown with a spice nose.Has the dark fruit flavor i enjoy.Has a medium mouth feel.i haven’t had an Allagash I didnt enjoy and this one didn’t dissapoint Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA Mar 25, 2006 Deep honey brown color with a tan head and good lacing. Spicy aromas of earthy fruits are complemented with yeast and sweet malts. Slighty thin, but smooth and tasty. Flavors were not as complex as expected, lots of breadiness. Weak finish, but overall this was pretty good.
