MayorQuimby (100), Santa Barbara, California, USA Jul 20, 2005 Bottle, batch 39. Pours a deep ruby color, fairly transparent, with a copious tan head that left gorgeous lacing. Chocolatey, fruity aroma, tons of cherries and figs. Explosive at first, a wonderful bouquet of aromas. First sip and there are some sweet malts to greet you, chocolatey, a bit smoky, very persistent. Kind of nutty after that, which lasts as well as the malts do, wonderful retention in the flavors. Very dry in the mouth at the finish, super smooth and rich in the mouth. A fine American example of the Belgian style, I’ve got a bottle of the Tripel waiting for me and I’m very much looking forward to it now. beaconstreet (811), Washington DC, USA Jul 20, 2005 Chocolate licoricey. Much better than the White Ale. Elixer for the soul on a summer afternoon. Bottle, happy deli, NYC. CamdenD (606), Madrid, Spain Jul 20, 2005 Very mellow taste, little head on the beer however, but this is a tasty beer. My bottle says 7.0%, like the reserve, so I’m confused... Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Jul 19, 2005 This was a nice, flavorful dubbel, but much like the allagash speciale reserve, nothing jumped out at you to tell you it’s anything extra special. It is very drinkable though. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jul 12, 2005 Updated: Oct 10, 2005Reddish brown in color, small head. Aroma is yeasty and fruity.
