Bottle. Pretty beer I think - but I see the opinions on that are quite mixed. I’d had three of the four-pack before rating this last one. The first taste was everything I look for in a Belgian - sweet, fizzy, malty, crisp, tart. But every taste thereafter was muted, missing something. Or maybe I just prefer the tripel. I try to tell myself not every beer has to hit me over the head with flavor, but maybe I don’t believe me.

Courtesy of SHIG. Pours dirty brown with thin tan head. The modest aroma is sweet with brown sugar, prunes, figs and a bit of pepper. The taste is much the same with brown sugar sweetness, prunes, figs, muted cherries, pepper, black grapes and then more prunes for good measure. Underneath those notes is a thin layer of yeasty spices.

Thanks SHIG for the share. Pours hazy brown with a nose of caramel, yeast, chocolate, cherries, some sugar, and some dark fruit. Flavor is yeast, chocolate, malt, and dark fruit. Fizzy and lots of yeast character in the medium-bodied dubbel. It really makes me wonder what the regular dubbel is like, if this one is the reserve. Hmmmmm...

Bottle, courtesy SHIG. Turd water brown pour, with gray highlights and a very frothy head, and thick lacing. Spicy nose, dark fruits, cotton candy, slight caramel. Flavor is sharp fruit with dry malts, caramel and some cocoa. Smooth, full-bodied, but kinda one-dimensional.

Bottle: Poured a orange hazy brown with white head. Aroma is fruit with sweet malts. Taste is sweet fruit with a slight booze finish. Not an overwhelming dubbel in my book.

Location: Had this one out of a bottle at Bourbon in Adam’s Morgan, it wasn’t the absolute best place to judge a beer (loud, dark, no glass)

Overall Impression: I remember enjoying this one, a nice complex dubbel with some interesting flavors. I will have to regrade next time I drink it if they conditions are more suitable to rating.
