Surprising, this is a refreshing beer. Wonderful, chewy, dark and flavorful. Enjoyed this beer.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - FEB 4, 2002
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2007 Aged one year: Aroma is very clean and fresh with green apples, ginger?, butterscotch and toasted malts. Bead is very creamy, off-tan with nice retention and stick power. Slightly nutty. A little light for a dubbel yet the extremely creamy and moderately dry palate compensate quite nicely. Very different from its 12 oz. counterpart. I had this a few hours after dinner and it was surprisingly appetizing. This is the finest dubbel you are going to find outside of Belgian.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Merc (313) - Pullman, Washington, USA - JAN 30, 2002
Pours deep thick and brown, just the way it tastes. Tasted a lot like Hersheys syrup in skim milk, and I don’t like chocolate milk. Bitter finish. Not something I’d look for again.

very nice color.. it has a chocolate flavor to it, quite sweet, a hit of fruit as well. This is a very interesting brew, don’t know that I would classify it as a belgian though..

Sweet and malty. Delicious but I’ll bet it really come into its own in six months.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Volgon (2715) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 5, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2004 Batch 13, in my cellar for about 7 months. This beer is really good. Lacks the complexity I have tasted in other dubbels. Buttery and a little weak in the malt area. The yeast on the bottom of the bottle improved the aroma and taste greatly by adding a nice fruity side to the brew. Earlier Rating: 12/24/2001 Total Score: 3.8 I liked this a lot better when I stopped thinking that it didn’t fit the style that well. It’s full dark and a bit fruity.

An excellent drink. It’s Chimay Grande Reserve without the heavy carbonation. Furthermore, it’s small local production guarantees a quality product at every sitting. Well Done.

This is not one of my favourite styles, but this is a pretty good interpretation. Almost burgundy coloured, yeasty apple/plum aroma and a nice mellow, fruity flavour. Medium bodied.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fraternie (754) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 20, 2001
Has a lot of potential...nice head, beautiful reddish-brown body, nice mouthfeel, good initial malt. However, it seems a little bitter and seems to lack flavor in the aftertaste. A good beer, but not elite.

Dark amber color, with a frothy head. Malty/fruity aroma, and a nice fruity taste. This seemed a bit weaker than other boubles I have had, but still very nice. Light-medium mouthfeel, fruity and mellow.
