Nice lacework and retention. Earthy aromas displaying wood, fruit, chocolate, and a musty, basement. Garnet color, foamy beige head, good retention. Malt and yeast dominate the flavor, with some subtle hints of grapes, nuts, and grain. Finish is slightly spicy and dry. This is a solid dubbel. Earlier Rating: 12/31/2002 Total Score: 3.3 Faint earthy yeast and bubblegum aroma. Similar flavor, very clean tasting, not many fruity esters. Thought this beer went well with the spicy food I was eating. sov (7), Felton, California, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2002 Batch#24
I enjoyed the shear yeasty pleasure for this Reserve. It reminds me of the complex smell of my grandparents cellar in southern France. There is something solid and ancient about this formula. Nice one! maeib (4776), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

The taste is of candy sugar and sour alcohol. A good beer. MayorQuimby (100), Santa Barbara, California, USA

Pours a deep ruby color, fairly transparent, with a copious tan head that left gorgeous lacing. Chocolatey, fruity aroma, tons of cherries and figs. Explosive at first, a wonderful bouquet of aromas. First sip and there are some sweet malts to greet you, chocolatey, a bit smoky, very persistent. Kind of nutty after that, which lasts as well as the malts do, wonderful retention in the flavors. Very dry in the mouth at the finish, super smooth and rich in the mouth. A fine American example of the Belgian style, I’ve got a bottle of the Tripel waiting for me and I’m very much looking forward to it now. Zinister (1206), Houston, Texas, USA

Woody toasted caramel aroma, very nice peppery esters, oyster brine. Warm brown bread flavor with pinch of cocoa powder. Perfectly dry and delicate finish. A dubbel that feels like it comes from a deep understanding and appreciation of the real Belgian roots. Very, very nice. 1FastSTi (2591), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA

The aroma is malty and similar to iced tea. It has some Belgian yeasts and a good semi-sweet milk chocolate and light coffee. The flavor is iced tea, semi-sweet chocolate. The palate is medium-full bodied and matches well with this beer. I like this...
