Strong caramel flavor at first and then earthy tones and alcohol come out. Good but not great. Nate (2575), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Sep 14, 2002 Ester reminding me of wheat beer, but much more malty and sweet. Bit of fruity hops. Small, off-white head atop cloudy, medium brown beer. Soft carb, med-heavy body. Silky. Sweet and malty, bit of molasses. Nutty sweet finish and after. Tinge of sour/bitter. Yeasty. Pretty good, with complex profile like a dark wheat/bock mix. Still has some rough edges to work out. TomDecapolis (3222), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Not off the charts spectacular, but a fine beer nonetheless. gotohelunc (476), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

Smells of rich, toasty malts, plums, and caramel. Really appealing nose. The taste wasn’t what I was hoping for after the start, though. Comes on with a nice thick plum/raisin taste up front but doesn’t hold the complexity for long. Finishes sharply, but not overly strongly or really that great. Good, drinkable, but not outstanding. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 25, 2008 12 oz. bottle that doesn’t use the word "reserve," but I think it’s identical. Cloudy dark brown-orange with white head. Looks a bit like a Nitro can head with its small bubbles. Mouthfeel is the same way, with prominent but soft carbonation against a medium body. This is a pretty dry dubbel, some dark fruits, some anise. Yeasty too. Very drinkable, but I like Ommegang’s better. AgentSteve (1379), SF Bay Area, California, USA
