Commercial Description:
Allagash Dubbel Reserve boasts a dark malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. With time, Allagash Dubbel Reserve will mature in the bottle and acquire distinctive port and sherry characteristics.

pink magenta wonders blend with orange and red and shine in violet subliminality while a lathering beauty of firm frothy suds sit above and coat the glass so nicely with each swirl..grapes, plain puckering grape insanity arose up into my nose where my nose cells faught over each aroma atom...chocolate notes then proceeded to this wacktackular nose party ..flavors of deep mature malts, grain, cereal, walnuts, wine, plum, yeast and black grapes collided orgasmically..creamy mouthfeel, slightly bitter yet salty aftertaste..a little dusty and musty too..Superb

nice head on a brownish double-looking body..the aroma was a tad to triple yeasty for a double..its all bready yeast..the flavor is all yeast too..with maybe some strange white grapeness in the finish..awkward bitterness too..

A beautiful cloudy amber brown pour with a nice tan head. Scents of licorice and vanilla blend with notes of yeast and sugar. Tastes mildly sweet, with caramel and spice the most prevalent flavors. Feels nice and crisp in the mouth, with a nice lingering sweetness.

Quite good. Sweet and malty with a rather dry finish. The commercial description is pretty much dead on. That said, there are nearly identical beers that are much cheaper. One point in Overall Impression deducted for poor value at $8.99 for a four-pack

Great, perhaps out of the proper glass and with a cleaner palate I can appreciate the aroma more. To me, this is the equal of Corsendonk brown and lacks (good also for me) the bubble gum notes that chime in in some similar brews. All around, I have found Allagash really knows what they are doing. Hope I can secure some of their reserves soon.

What kick this has..750 mL bottle, snifter. Milk chocolate, caramel, cookie malt (H), flowery hops (L); doughy yeast (L); raisin, prune, cherry, cola aromas. Medium amber body with a creamy, tan head that is slowly diminishing. Moderately sweet flavor becomes a moderately sweet, lightly bitter finish. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation.

Mahogany with good, foamy head / Nose of malt, raisins, and caramel / Full, creamy body with great, lingering finish / Big flavors of toffee, coffee, chocolate, raisins, vanilla, and sour malt / Pretty much a textbook example of an excellent Belgian.

750 ml Bottle Pours a dark, murky brown with a medium sized off-white head. The scent is pleasent but hard to distinguish. The flavor is amazing - a smooth, refined blend of malts with a bit of some dark fruits. The finish is equally good as it slowly lingers in your mouth - excellent. This is truly at the top of the non-Belgian abbey ales and rivals even the Trappists if not in the overt complexity than the pure enjoyment of the brew.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with thick brown head. Aroma is bready with some apples and cinnamon. Flavor is fruity with some coffee notes. Light and bubbly on the palate. Very nice.
