Commercial Description:
Allagash Dubbel Reserve boasts a dark malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. With time, Allagash Dubbel Reserve will mature in the bottle and acquire distinctive port and sherry characteristics.

Big head, medium reddish body, fruit with good spice in the nose, lighter color and more clarity than I’d expect from a dubbel. Distinct alcohol flavor, carrying through to the finish, with spices and medium sweetness. Some good maltiness and perhaps a slight woodiness, fairly noticeable finishing bitterness. This doesn’t seem well-balanced for the style; too much bittering and the alcohol is not well enough hidden. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Thoroughly unimpressive.

330 ml bottle. Dark brown with an orange tint. Almost no head, but a bit of lace. Aroma: rich malt, chocolate and caramel, grains, dark fruit, Rich malty flavor, dry for a dubbel, good roasted action. Belgian yeast, dark fruits. Nice balance. Touch of citrus. A very good, somewhat stout-like dubbel. Well done. Quite complex. Doesn’t have that big yeasty Belgian taste, and probably not really sweet enough. Clean, slightly fruity finish.

Bottled (12 oz). Mahogony pour, tan bubbly head. Lacy. Fruity nose--cherry, alomnd, yeast. Flavor is malt, cherry, cinnamon, yeast, spice. Dry finish. Medium, soft mouthfeel.

Everything about this beer just seemed weak. Aroma was decent with light citrus coming through. Pour is a basic amber with an off white head. Watery and thin feeling citrus flavor that ended with a sharp bite.

(Bottle). Fruity aroma. Dark red with small off white head. Flavor is pleasant enough, with fruits and sugar, but nothing special in the Abbey Dubbel category. There are a great many better choices

750ml bottle. Pours a dark hazy brown. Smells of banna, malt and faint smell of alcohol. Flavor is sweet with a tangy finish.
