COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash had the honor of hosting De Struise Brouwers Brewmaster Urbain Coutteau and his co-workers Carlo Grootaert, Phil Driessens and Peter Bruin along with the "Homebrew Chef" Sean Paxton of homebrewchef.com on August 29. The Brewers with our Brewmaster, Jason Perkins collaborated on a Belgium Blonde called Fedeltá which means Fidelity in Italian. De Struise had previously brewed a version of this beer at their farm brewery in Belgium. After collaborating strategically over e-mail, phone and in person on brew day, the five brewers were able to put all their hard work into a great brew. Fedeltá, 8.2% Blonde was brewed using a selection of imported Pilsner Malt, Domestic Pale Malt as well as 15% Wheat Malt. American Cascade and Amarillo Hops were also selected resulting in 35 IBU. Also added in the boil was Cane Sugar and Honey. Fedeltá was fermented with our house Belgian-style strain, producing a subtle ester profile. The result is a smooth beer with subtle flavors of spice, honey, and vanilla as well as citrus hop flower notes. Fedeltá will be available in limited markets, draft only in the fall.

Draft at Rattle N Hum. Pours a golden body with a white head. Hint of pear and banana spicy yeast, chewy Belgian cane sugars and apple. Almost a hint of pineapple in the nose. A nice note of honey as well.

In short: A honeyed and fruity Belgian blonde ale with not-so-pleasant floral/perfume notes. Good overall.
How: Tap at Ebenezer’s (Maine)
The look: Partly cloudy dark blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: Strong nose of Belgium yeast with grass and perfume notes, like scented bubblegum. The neutral sweet malt backbone tastes like generic soft/chewy white bread with a lot of honey. Strong floral hops notes that tend towards perfume. Fruity flavours of tangerine, pineapples and other light dessert fruits. Standard nice Belgian carbonation and mouthfeel. Many good things going on here but to me there’s too much honey and perfumy notes to make this anything more than “just” a good beer. Still, I’m glad I had the chance to taste this limited release beer which, just like staplers and paper clips, will never be bottled.

Tap at Capone’s a week ago. Aroma of coriander, lots of phenols, wheat. Flavor puts a diverse spice profile at the forefront, not sure what’s from the yeast and what’s actually spices, but it all works. Quite smooth. Not the most complex beer ever, but still good stuff.

Draft at Capones. Pours a golden nectar color with a small white bubbly head. Lots of honey coming through in the aroma and flavor. The warmer this one got the more the honey sweetness melded with some nice bitter hoppy aromas and flavors. This was one great beer.

On draft at Capones. Pours a semi clear yellow gold with a small white head. Aroma of fruit, candied sugar and yeast. Taste is much like the aroma- fruity with candied sugar and yeast. Slight perfumy aftertaste.

On tap at Capone’s. Pours a cloudy gold with a small white head. Aroma of wheat, some clove and spices. Flavor is very wheaty with tons of spices and yeast. Definitely more of a witbier (similar to Fluxus too I think). Pretty chill and easy to drink. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

On tap at Capones. Poured a medium and cloudy golden color with a small sized white head. Aromas of floral hops, yeasty, spices, some grains, and a little earthy. Tastes of citrus, floralness, honey sweetness, and lighlty earthy.
