COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash had the honor of hosting De Struise Brouwers Brewmaster Urbain Coutteau and his co-workers Carlo Grootaert, Phil Driessens and Peter Bruin along with the "Homebrew Chef" Sean Paxton of homebrewchef.com on August 29. The Brewers with our Brewmaster, Jason Perkins collaborated on a Belgium Blonde called Fedeltá which means Fidelity in Italian. De Struise had previously brewed a version of this beer at their farm brewery in Belgium. After collaborating strategically over e-mail, phone and in person on brew day, the five brewers were able to put all their hard work into a great brew. Fedeltá, 8.2% Blonde was brewed using a selection of imported Pilsner Malt, Domestic Pale Malt as well as 15% Wheat Malt. American Cascade and Amarillo Hops were also selected resulting in 35 IBU. Also added in the boil was Cane Sugar and Honey. Fedeltá was fermented with our house Belgian-style strain, producing a subtle ester profile. The result is a smooth beer with subtle flavors of spice, honey, and vanilla as well as citrus hop flower notes. Fedeltá will be available in limited markets, draft only in the fall.

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of yeast and grains. Poured gold/yellow/flaxen/orange in color with a large, creamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of yeast, pale malts, and grains. Light to medium body. Dry texture. Soft carbonation. Yeasty, lightly dry finish. Overall, very Saison-like.

At Max’s belgian Fest. A bit disappointing, but I did finish it! Big and wet drink, strong vanilla and bread. Sweet from fruit and sugar. Just a bit off.

On tap at Novare Res. Pours a golden cloudy color with a good size white foamy head. Reminded me of the triple, but a bit more sting up front and a hint of the amarillo hops. The finish has a bit of alcohol burn. Not as good as i expected, it’s almost a little too subtlely flavored.

Not sure who shared this at the SC gathering, but thanks, whoever you are! Slightly cloudy golden pour, with less lively body and head than expected for a beer with intense fermentation like this. The pungent Allagash yeast strain more or less dominates the nose, with mild elements of grass, citrus, and spice. Thin palate, and the multiple ingredients neither stand out nor cohere enough for my taste. Will be interested to try this down the road if possible.

Tap at Barcade. Calm, hoppy, meaty aroma. Kind of trashy and sausagey. Not particularly enticing. Soup, rocky, muddy yeast flavor, a hint of safe and savory spices, a little bit of esters, easy drinking but overall very disappointing. With two brewers of the caliber of Struise and Allagash Id expect more, but then again very few collaboration beers turn out any good.

On tap at Capones. Poured a medium and cloudy golden color with a small sized white head. Aromas of floral hops, yeasty, spices, some grains, and a little earthy. Tastes of citrus, floralness, honey sweetness, and lighlty earthy.

Koelschtrinker (7034) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 3, 2011
