Tap at Rattle N Hum. Pale golden pour. The nose is lovely. Soft spicy nose with a lot of light spice, herbal/spicy hops. Bright saisonesque yeastiness. Very light and fresh and a little bit peppery. Very spicy yeastiness that comes across both dry and fruity. Light and lean with a touch of lemon and yeasty spice. Fresh and very tasty. It has a nice grassy herbal character along with a little bit of light tartness on the back. Spicy and quite tasty.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of fruit, yeast, pepper, Belgian malts, and slight citrus. Poured golden/amber in color with a large, loose, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Lightly cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Small lacing. Flavor is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of fruit, pepper, yeast, light Belgian malts, slight coriander, and a hint of caramel. Light to medium body. Thinish, lightly dry texture. Average to slightly lively carbonation. Yeast and pepper finish is lightly dry. 8.3%ABV is totally hidden.

Looks great. Rich golden color, vanishing white head. Surprisingly little lace for an Allagash, but then sweet potatoes probably have less protein than their usual wheat and barley grain mix. Nose of a Belgian tripel with ... cabbage? Taste of a Belgian tripel, slightly peppery, slightly sweet, with cabbage? Carrots? The finish is vegetal ... and seriously weird, which fades, leaving hints of hops and pepper. Minus a couple of bonus points because it is too expensive and too alcoholic to be this unpleasant. Now ... who can I give the rest of the case to? And I’m usually a huge fan.

(Rating #2619)

Enjoyed this at a tasting tour held at the brewery, I was without pen or paper but the beer was incredulously complex one really needs to sit down to work out to determine all the subtle complexities.
