COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Allagash Fluxus is a beer of continuous change. Brewed differently every year to commemorate our anniversary, this year’s Fluxus is a huge Imperial Chocolate Stout. Weighing in at 10.3% ABV, it is one of the strongest beers that Allagash has ever brewed. The brain child of brewer Doug Klippenstein, this beer utilized a unique brewing process that used wort from a smaller brew, as the “water” for mashing the grain for this brew. Maine-grown barley was used as the base for this grain bill that also included a blend of three roasted malts and oats. Fluxus was appropriately hopped with both US Saaz and Glacier hops. Just before knock out, fifty pounds of Taza roasted Cacao nibs were added to the whirlpool. The result is a thick, sticky stout with tons of both roasted and chocolate flavors, aromas of tobacco and cocoa, and a surprisingly sweet, creamy finish.

As part of our Tribute Series, Allagash proudly donates $1 per bottle sold to the Allagash Pediatric Nurses Scholarship at the Maine Medical Center. This scholarship directly supports the training of nurses in the field of pediatrics.

Had at Stone’s "Pour it Black" event. Excellent ale, dark but with hoppy aromatics abundant. Would highly recommend.

Black pour, Light tan head. Bitter dark chocolate, sweetness, cherry, and light roasted coffee. Not world class, but I like it.

750mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of cocoa nibs, some licorice or anise, almost no roast and no coffee notes. Flavour seems vinegary and plasticy, infected bottle?, with some tart cherry, acetone, vinegar and no sign of the cocoa nibs. Is this right? Seems either infected or poorly put together. Not too enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours clean solid black with small tan head. Aroma of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, grain. Flavour of soured cherry, chocolate, wood, vanilla, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee. Throat warmer. Quite abrasive, with a odd flavour i am struggling to locate.

Acquired in trade. Pours near black with nice, 1 finger espresso head. Aroma is dark chocolate, fudge brownie, molasses. Taste is sweet with a little roast and some light bitterness. Medium bodied and slick texture. Smooth and delicious!

750mL bottle. Poured deeper brown with a well-retained dark tan head. The aroma picked up lots of sweet, roasty cocoa and vanilla.. some tart, oaky accents.. some earthy accents.. mixed fruit really deep down. The flavor opened with sour chocolate and oak notes, with warm, sweeter cocoa, vanilla, and lesser coffee behind.. dry earth and leafy bitterness plus fairly bright oaky/metallic sourness around.. finished with more cocoa, a touch of tobacco, metallic sourness, and alcohol warmth. Heavier-bodied with thick carbonation on the palate.. I really enjoyed the chocolate, but the sourness seemed out of place and overly pervasive.

Old bottle of mine. Been in the fridge for a while. Black pour chocolate head. Huge coco nose. Chocolate taste is big. Yum.

Sampled at the stout tasting. Very awesome. Nose is average, but the flavor is smooth and complex, roast and vanilla, honey, bourbon, cocoa. Creamy chewy body. Very nicely done.

Thanks to adneilsen for sharing - black pour, with light ruby hints around the edges - nose of bittersweet chocolate, vanilla bean, light blueberry notes, lightly acidic black malt, a hint of smoke, dough - flavor of bittersweet chocolate, light acidity, roast, blueberry, caramelized sugars - finish is medium dry, ash and smoke - a nice, balanced imperial.

Bottle thanks to Aaron for the pour! 750 mL bottle is thick black with creamy tan head, aroma brings notes of big dark chocolate, toffee, caramel, hints of coffee, some slight yeast notes as well. Taste is a nice mix of dark chocolate, cocoa, some slight dark fruit, roast and wet coffee grounds notes, finishing fairly bitter, nice brew!
