Thanks to adneilsen for sharing - black pour, with light ruby hints around the edges - nose of bittersweet chocolate, vanilla bean, light blueberry notes, lightly acidic black malt, a hint of smoke, dough - flavor of bittersweet chocolate, light acidity, roast, blueberry, caramelized sugars - finish is medium dry, ash and smoke - a nice, balanced imperial.

Sampled at the stout tasting. Very awesome. Nose is average, but the flavor is smooth and complex, roast and vanilla, honey, bourbon, cocoa. Creamy chewy body. Very nicely done.

Bottle thanks to Aaron for the pour! 750 mL bottle is thick black with creamy tan head, aroma brings notes of big dark chocolate, toffee, caramel, hints of coffee, some slight yeast notes as well. Taste is a nice mix of dark chocolate, cocoa, some slight dark fruit, roast and wet coffee grounds notes, finishing fairly bitter, nice brew!

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head quickly recedes to hug rim. Chocolate and espresso aromas. Soft with chocolate front to back and a lasting dark espresso finish.

750 ml bottle purchased over a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($19.99). Pours completely pitch black with two full fingers of creamy mocha colored head that has pretty good retention. Aroma of dusty and smoky roasted malts, raw cocoa, roasted nuts, and a bit of vanilla coffee. Flavor of smoky dark roasted malts, dark but smooth high-cacao-content-chocolate bar, black coffee, and noticeable oats. Not sweet at all...actually more roasty-bitter. The oats help to smooth out the big roastiness of this impy stout. The high ABV is quite well concealed here. Good stout, but I might have preferred the cocoa to be less subtle and a little bit sweeter. (77, 624)

Bought at the brewery Portland, Maine. 08-08-2010
Poured form the 750ml bottle into an Allagash flute.
The color is completely black with no highlights and three fingers or so of foamy brownish head and thick lacing left on the glass.
The smell is funky with some chocolate malt aroma. Some serious dark malts in the nose with a Belgian like aroma that is quite interesting, not sure where this is leading.
The taste is black licorice with a sweet malt flavor. Some cocoa powder is there that is a bit dry with some creamy flavor that leads into a bitter, dark chocolate flavor.
This beer is pretty big with the body feeling a bit expansive. It feels like it is heavy but has handles ie.. there is a smooth, drinkable feel that makes this so down easy and is not more than anyone can handle.
