kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 16, 2008 75cl bottle from Habersham Liquors (Savannah, GA). Pours a copper-reddish-brown with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly to nothing. Nose is sweet with hints of ripe, dark fruit, flower, spice, and raisin. Very complex earthy taste with notes of spice, bread, yeast, oak, and ripe fruit. Raisins and sugar plums spring to mind. Finish is sweet and sticky with notes of bready dough and candy sugar. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 14, 2008 Pours a dark copper that sits bright red in the light. Has a two finger creamy light tan head. The nose is sweet, fruity, rummy, alcohol, belgian yeast imprint, rainins, nose isn’t as complex as the flavor. Tastes fruity and warm, dark belgian sugars and raisins, wam alcohol, Belgian yeast, port, begins to get a funkyness to it as it warms. Flavor proves to be very complex. Nice creamy mouthfeel with a full carbonation. Finishes warm and fruity. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 8, 2008 YESSSSS! Delicious. Amazing mouthfelel. Wow. Dark amber color wtih a small head. Aromas of yeast, malt, dried fruit. Sweetness on the tongue, good malt and what a creamy, foamy mouthfeel. Amazing! jthg (66), Austin, Texas, USA May 26, 2008 4 beer in. Pours a slightly cloudy dark amber. The aroma is a sweet spice with a undertone of alcohol. As it touches your lips, a fruit taste comes through strong.
The brew goes down smooth leaving a woody taste in the mouth that eventually turns into spice probably coming from the choice of yeast.
Very well balanced beer. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA May 25, 2008 Thanks to Mike for bringing this from beverages for less. Very tast brew and a favorite style. #500 whoohoo. jcweaver (65), VA Beach, Virginia, USA May 18, 2008 Aroma was moderatly malty and slightly hoppy with a hint of flowers, banana and coriander. Poured a large head which was creamy and off-white with good lacing. Was light murky brown in color. Moderatly sweet initially with a heavy acidic finish. Finish was full, syrupy, and heavily astringent. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA May 18, 2008 Sampled at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. Pours a clear copper color with no head and some tight bubbles. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with some hay and whiskey. Flavor is malty with sweet candy, yeast and some brandy. Finish is thick and boozy. Could either use more complexity or some more subtlety. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 13, 2008 Not sure how a beer can be prettier than this...unless the bubbles were packed in a little tighter!!! Fire-in-a-glass...inferno orange with incredible carbonation that rises from the ashes to create a white smoke-like cloud of a head. That head starts at 3-inches but never goes away...and so when the second glass is poured, it grows to 4. The alcohol is completely invisible in this one. Bready-Belgian characteristics/spices in the nose. Dark fruits, brown sugar, caramel all find their way onto the palate. I can see why they call it 4: 4 malts, 4 hops, 4-inch head...I’ll give it a 4!!!
