Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Apr 16, 2008 Caged and corked. This poured bright red-orange, highly active and inviting. The aroma is sweetly sugary, and hinting at a ready-to-harvest orchard. This drinks with a predominately fruity character, pear, grape. Quite the effervescent drink, too. Nice after dinner sipper. (#3426, 4/16/2008) mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Apr 11, 2008 750ml bottle, pours amber with off-white head, that mostly dissipates and leaves light lacing. Aroma more hoppy than other quads I’ve smelled, with hints of dark fruit and some tart apple/grape aroma. Sweet taste, moderately bitter with tart bitter finish. Pretty good American version of the Belgian style! scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Apr 9, 2008 hazy orange with largish bubbles. rounded aroma, not much stands out. good beer all around tasty with neither peaks nor valleys. gotbeach (128), San Diego, California, USA Apr 1, 2008 Cloudy orange pour with a tan diminishing head. Sour yeast aroma with citrus and spice. Sour plum, blackberry flavors with a sweet aftertaste. Nice blend for 10%. Sweet! #100. jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Mar 31, 2008 Draft @ Trappeze. Pours reddish/brown with thin tan head. Aroma of dark fruits. Taste is spices and dark fruit. Not as bold as some quads. Easy drinking and very enjoyable. DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Mar 30, 2008 Deep orangey brown, big puffy head that settles into a gentle skin. aromas of whiskey and toffee, yeast, and green grapes. Toffee malt and fruity yeast dominate, fairly light in the mouth for all of its bombastic proclamations of "four, four FOUR". It’s not bad at all, but just not nearly the level of complexity that I’d expected. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Mar 16, 2008 Poured into a tulip glass. The color is lighter and less hazy than you’d expect for a quadrupel. Just about the same hue as the empty bottle it came out of. Head is white instead of tan, and 3 fingers high. The foam isn’t as dense as a real Belgian beer would have, but it does leave nice lacing.
Aroma is good but not very complex. Sugary dates provide the classic dark fruitiness, and some cookieish malt.
Nice and malty in flavor, with that ever-present date note as well as raisin and some fleshy fruit. I don’t know if this beer was made with spices but there is a spicy component to the flavor. It could be peppery alcohol though.
Body could be a little richer, carbonation is high. Does not compare favorably to authentic examples of the style. Still, this beer is pretty easy to drink despite the high abv. BellsFan (47), Michigan, USA Mar 15, 2008 Pours a redish brown. First things first, 10% is unknown. Well hidden. Well crafted beer. Dark fruit and spices. Worth a try.
