RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Mar 12, 2008 Pours deep amber red with a frothy head that disappears quickly. Aroma of candies sugar, yeast, and raisins. Sweet malts present right up front (fairly complex with notes of candied sugar, dark fruits, and citrus), followed by alcohol finishing slightly bitter. I like to see my quadrupels hide their alcohol a little more effectively, but an interesting concept, and a quite enjoyable beer. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 9, 2008 draft @ uber tavern - after enjoying a few bottles of this over the last year, i was delighted to see this on tap at uber; bright orange with reddish hints and cream colored head; sweet aromas of candy, yeast, fruit and sugar; creamy texture and just divine; one of my fav beers lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Mar 7, 2008 Pours an attractive red-orange color with frothy white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of candied sugar, belgian yeast, dark fruit, dried fruit, cocoa, and floral hops. Flavor is sweet but nicely balanced with dark fruit and some citrus hoppiness as well as candied sugar. Another good one from Allagash. dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Mar 7, 2008 On tap at Firewaters. Once again Firewaters served this beer WAAAY TOO COLD, for a beer bar I’m shocked on how cold they serve their beers. Pours a muddy amber brown with a small off white head. Sweet aroma with notes of candied sugar, yeast, and dark fruit. Flavor is similiar to the aroma with lots of sweetness and dark fruit components and very well hidden alcohol for a 10% beer. After drinking this and the DFH Santo Palo I was very nicely buzzed and well I should be for $19 worth of beer!! ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 7, 2008 Bottled. Thanks Mum! Pours out in a hazy brownish amber colour with a low creamy white foam. Dark, deep, fruity and yeasty aroma of figs, black cherries, brown sugar, sweet licorice and raisins. Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Flavour of of figs, raisins, brown sugar, salty licorice, yeast, almonds and black cherries. Long warming finish of pepper, black cherries, brown sugar, prunes and alcohol. Total score is Four. corby112 (675), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 4, 2008 Pours a dark brown with amber edges and beige head. Aroma of spice, roasted malt, hops, dark fruit and candi sugar. Flavor is similar to aroma with dark fruits, malts and sugar cane. High ABV is very well masked. BenDover (125), Texas, USA Mar 1, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber/brown. Very dense tan head. Aroma is yeasty and spicy but rather faint. Flavor is not quite as complex as I’d expect in a quadrupel -- some yummy candy sugars, fruits, spices including maybe just a hint of coriander. Faintest hint of a tinny aftertaste but not bad. Alcohol well hidden. Pretty good stuff. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Feb 28, 2008 Rating 420, would mean more if I partook. 750 bottle, about 2 years old, purchased on 4/11/06 and decided on a whim to open it tonight. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. I’ve been on a bit of an Allagash kick lately and I’m not sure why, maybe because they make damn good beer maybe not. Cloudy orangish copper poru with a 1 finger tan head. The nose is sweet, but also bright and big. There is complexity in the nose that certainly shines through. Taste is woody sweet and spiced with a taste that reveals the candy sugars used. This is a damn solid beer, with lots of complexity enough that I can’t quite put my finger on it right now. Its good and big and its Allagash alright.
