Aroma of spice, roasted malt, hops, dark fruit and candi sugar. Flavor is similar to aroma with dark fruits, malts and sugar cane. High ABV is very well masked. BenDover (125), Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber/brown. Very dense tan head. Aroma is yeasty and spicy but rather faint. Flavor is not quite as complex as I’d expect in a quadrupel -- some yummy candy sugars, fruits, spices including maybe just a hint of coriander. Faintest hint of a tinny aftertaste but not bad. Alcohol well hidden. Pretty good stuff. WeeHeavySD (2960), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Rating 420, would mean more if I partook. 750 bottle, about 2 years old, purchased on 4/11/06 and decided on a whim to open it tonight. Shared with my girlfriend Cyn. I’ve been on a bit of an Allagash kick lately and I’m not sure why, maybe because they make damn good beer maybe not. Cloudy orangish copper poru with a 1 finger tan head. The nose is sweet, but also bright and big. There is complexity in the nose that certainly shines through. Taste is woody sweet and spiced with a taste that reveals the candy sugars used. This is a damn solid beer, with lots of complexity enough that I can’t quite put my finger on it right now. Its good and big and its Allagash alright. darkninja67 (40), Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Carbonation noted when in glass. Flavor mostly composed of fruits. Light spicy flavor. Very smooth. 10% abv? Could have fooled me. Overall a very good offering from Allagash. fredandboboflo (1404), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 10, 2008 Bottle. Orange brown pour with wispy head that I actually found pretty attractive. Aroma predominantly of prunes (although the gentlest prune aroma I’ve ever come across, in a good way) and reminded me of some mild, quality spiced rum (so spices and alcohol you could say too, but more complex). Flavor opens up with both light and dark fruits, notably more prune, plum, banana, apple, pear, licorice, nuttiness, all working very well together. When I smelled the cork I thought the beer was going to be nothing but a big spice bomb, but I was pleasantly surprised. Very good brew if you accept (as I at long last have done) that something classified as a quad doesn’t need to resemble the dark, Belgian masterpieces. gottalottaibu (243), charlotte, North Carolina, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Draft @ BSP. Pours an opaque orange-brown with solid but minor white head. Nose is very metallicy, with strong yeast character (musty, bready) and a suggestion of treacled malts. On the palate, much the same, more drying yeast flavors along with darker fruits, leafy hops, and a lingering dry finish. I must say I was underwhelmed by this beer. But I’ll probably give it another shot from a bottle. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber color into the trappist glass with a small head. The lacing clung to the sides. Scents of figs, raisins, malt and brown sugar dominate. A nice coating mouthfeel with flavors of dried fruit, yeast, malt and molasses. Very smooth and dry finish. A very nice quad.
