ajm (903), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 Maybe I will have it again, because I really did not see the appeal. An underwhelming taste - mildly yeasty... mild everything really. A forgettable drink with no finish and no lasting notes. riversideAK (2650), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jan 26, 2008 Pours a burnt orange with a thin beige head. Fruity, estery, and wine like. Apples, pears, a light acidity round out the aroma. Flavor of pears, plums, apricots, other dried fruits. A touch of metal. Clove, spice, banana. Yeast. Some dark malts. Extremely complex. Smooth, but hot. Very wine like. jstraw (750), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 25, 2008 Updated: Oct 15, 2008Amber-raisin color with good, creamy beige head / Winey nose of banana and dark fruit / Full, malty body, with a little spritz, and good finish / Flavors of sour malt, banana, caramel, raisins, and cloves / A well-balanced strong ale. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 19, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a muddy brown caramel with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, candied malt, dark fruit, caramel and yeast. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, candied malt, prunes, plums, dates and cloves. Excellent !! wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada Jan 18, 2008 Rated in Los Angeles while on a SCTE ET conference. Rated in a hotel bar glass. Pours a cloudy brown / rust color, somewhat opaque with a very thin bust present head. Aroma is slightly sour, slightly sweet, hints of orange peel but almost has a lambic like tartness. Flavor is on the malty / bread like yeasty side, very little sweetness, very little hoppiness. SSSteve (2049), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 17, 2008 cloudy brown beer with a small off-white head. sweet fruity aroma with caramel. flavor of spices, oranges, peaches, sugar, maple, dark fruits. very sweet. candyish. i like the balance between the tart light fruits and the sweet dark fruits. notes of spices and licorice. aroma is good too. tastes like a champ! glennmastrange (809), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2008 Bottle. Light malt notes of nutty and caramel, moderate aromas of flowers and perfume for the hops, moderate mustiness for the yeast, and date and clove in the background. Head is small, fizzy, off-white, with very little lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is slightly hazy brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and acidic to start, and heavily acidic, lightly bitter and a bit sour in the finish. Palate is is medium bodied, watery but slightly slick, and has a lively/fizzy carbonation. Not much depth in the taste as I expected and there are much better Quadrupels out there, but still a good drinker. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA Jan 1, 2008 From a 750mL Bottle. Pours a murky, caramel brown color with a finger of fizzy tan foam. A vigorous swirl and some warming creates a new layer of head, but the murkiness and general "blah" carbonation activity is rather disappointing. Dark fruity aromas of prunes and raisins, richened by some light chocolate. Some yeast esters add some additional fruity characters, but mostly it’s the sugary dark fruits. Smells pretty nice, but seems to be missing some vibrancy that may be hiding with the rest of the tired appearance. Medium full bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel. More carbonation comes out on the tongue, lightening it up somewhat, but a layer of residual malt sugars and leathery yeast spice remains coated on the tongue in the finish. More raisins, plums, and dates, spiced by some mild earthy pepper. Molasses cookie dough and maple syrup. The flavors are pretty good, but this one comes across a bit lifeless for me overall.
