Popped the bottle and then walked away for a good 15 to 20 minuites to get this one down to room temperature from cellar temperature. Opened up nicely, dried fruits on the nose, some apricots, and a bit of honey migling with lots of sweet maltiness. Switches to darker fruits on the palate, with some sweet candi sugar, but never getting over the top, bready maltiness, a bit of nuttiness as well and full but still remaining gentle carbonation. Nicely done

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2008 Poured from a 750ml bottle at a restaurant in Brunswick, ME, at a surprising very good price - not that that should matter. It pored an amber brown with a small but nice looking head. The head went down quickly after the pour. It was malty on first taste but it was also cold and that seemed to be masking some the real flavor. As the drinking went on the wonderful bouquette and flavor came through. I picked up raisin, some mild nut, and lots of yeast and malt. It really just kept getting better, and better and better. Wonderful beer. I was fully impressed by the end of the experience. Everyone has a different palate but I don’t get some of the threes I am reading here.

75cl bottle from Habersham Liquors (Savannah, GA). Pours a copper-reddish-brown with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly to nothing. Nose is sweet with hints of ripe, dark fruit, flower, spice, and raisin. Very complex earthy taste with notes of spice, bread, yeast, oak, and ripe fruit. Raisins and sugar plums spring to mind. Finish is sweet and sticky with notes of bready dough and candy sugar.

Pours a dark copper that sits bright red in the light. Has a two finger creamy light tan head. The nose is sweet, fruity, rummy, alcohol, belgian yeast imprint, rainins, nose isn’t as complex as the flavor. Tastes fruity and warm, dark belgian sugars and raisins, wam alcohol, Belgian yeast, port, begins to get a funkyness to it as it warms. Flavor proves to be very complex. Nice creamy mouthfeel with a full carbonation. Finishes warm and fruity.

4 beer in. Pours a slightly cloudy dark amber. The aroma is a sweet spice with a undertone of alcohol. As it touches your lips, a fruit taste comes through strong. The brew goes down smooth leaving a woody taste in the mouth that eventually turns into spice probably coming from the choice of yeast. Very well balanced beer.

Sampled at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore. Pours a clear copper color with no head and some tight bubbles. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with some hay and whiskey. Flavor is malty with sweet candy, yeast and some brandy. Finish is thick and boozy. Could either use more complexity or some more subtlety.
