CMUBEERMAN (415), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Apr 30, 2006 bottle from slob. Pours a rich earthy brown with a minimal tan head. Aroma is extremely fruity, a decent tough of alcohol, spice, and sugar...hardly any yeast. Flavor is pretty good...lots of fruit and alcohol tang...more fresh fruit than dried. Flavor is also sweet from sugar and malt. Mouthfeel is rich, but light. Tak (1), Virginia, USA does not count Apr 26, 2006 Pours with very little head, alcohol is hidden well. Aroma is not strong at all. Tastes good, light fruit and mild alcohol. No special mouthfeel, but not offensive either. I like it but not worth the price. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2006 Updated: Apr 26, 2006Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma of spice, fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is smooth, citrusy, sweet, carbonated. Another brewery I love. thornecb (1736), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 22, 2006 Pours deep orange into a trappist glass. Microbubble head quickly recedes to leave a scant head around the edge. Fruity aromas -- cherry, pear. Creamy, syrupy and sweet dough with a lasting fermented caramel fruit finish. Dates and pears. kujo9 (1077), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2006 750 ML bottle from Kramer 17801: Orangey copper w/a thin, short lived head. Vinous raisiny aroma up front w/ an odd minty sort of overtone! Bready malt and alcohol esters second. A bit of an herbal and floral hop aroma comes in third. Doughy yeast and also lightly caramelly. Well balanced flavor, if a touch on the sweet side. Very caramelly, bready malt flavor, and raisiny dark fruit. Some alcoholic estery flavors as well. Surprisingly not harshly bitter like many of their other offerings. Finish is a bit semi sweet and bready malt flavored w/ a raisiny dry aftertaste. A bit of a hot mouthfeel from alcohol, slightly dry, and medium body w/ lower medium carbonation. I’m not quite sure what to think of this one. It might need some aging to gain some complexities as it is not very complex at the moment. It’s not bad, but as far as Abt/Quads go, not a very impressive one. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 21, 2006 Red-foxy, hazy beer; fast gone off-white head. Wine-y, vinous, sweet&sour fruit aromas. Phenolic taste but with very restrained sourness. Some rosewater flavour trait gives sweetness. Fruity flavours, but with a "bathroom soap" streak. Burning MF, slight oiliness, good body. First impression is always aggressive at Allagash brews. This is no exception. It mellows down eventually, but I have a slight problem with this. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 19, 2006 Another delicious high grav brew from Allagash. This one pours hazy deep copper/ruby tinged with a fluffy, 3-finger white head. The aroma is very fruity, with a tropical skew, and a heavy caramel malt and hop presence, plus a cobwebby, candi sugary element. The palate is dense and bold, with the flavors being fruity up front (figs, plums, berries, cabernet, port) then yielding to a hoppy floral spicy candi sugary malt taste. Very complex, the alcohol does emerge a little as it warms, but that takes nothing away from this one. Another masterpiece from Allagash, a brewer that is quickly rising into my all time upper echelon. jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Apr 16, 2006 Bottle pours deep brown. Licorice, fruit, and candy sugar with a mild alcohol aftertaste. Good, but not great.
