Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 12, 2005 On tap at Landmark 1850 Inn - Milwaukee. Pour was a clear and deep ruby/amber with a medium tan head. Nice intricate lacing as this one went down. Deep dark fruits and other malts provided a strong basis for the aroma and the flavor. Spices and candi sugar were also present in the aroma and flavor. Flavor gets an extra point for being slightly more bold and intense than the nose. Very smooth and coating on the palate, with some warmth at the back of the throat. This was an excellent brew! Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Sep 11, 2005 wow saved this for Colts opening day, just cracked it open to watch prime time. Nice cloudy(yeast) poured of a auburn body with off white head that settles with nice lacing. Aroma was spice-sweet-wood-earth Full body with great tastes same as aroma, Nice different brew here. Oh, alcohol was everywhere, nose and tastem , with big warming as well. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Sep 9, 2005 Pours cloudy amber with small head that fades fast. Some hops in aroma, but pretty light. Flavor is of sweet malt and light hops. An enjoyable beer, but nothing to get excited about. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Sep 7, 2005 Bottle. Reddish beer with a nice off-white head. Malt, brown sugar, and alcohol aroma. Sweet and musty flavor with some spice. Some fruit, but it tastes of harsh fermentables with loads of alchol - doesn’t bother to hide it at all. Nice full body, but its not smooth at all. Things get better as you drink more and the mustiness turns into a yeastiness, but it just doesn’t win me over. Not worth buying another bottle. Allagash just doesn’t succeed in my view - I want to like their beers, but they always come up short. porterdude (170), Bellingham, Washington, USA Sep 7, 2005 My initial impression came from the pour. This beer pours a deep ruby color with a quickly disappearing off white head. The aroma of this beer contains hints of port, cherries, oak, dates, plums, and spices. Now for the best part, the taste. Huge body, thick like a leather strap, but don’t let that turn you off. This beer is big and intentionally comes across as in your face. Lots of plum and candi sugar in this one. The port flavor is there as is fermented cherries (this beer contains no cherries), i recommend you drink this slowly after a decent meal. Brad (364), Berkley, Michigan, USA Sep 7, 2005 Bomber: Pours a darker red/bown combination with a small rapidly diminshing head. Aromas are sweet and spicy. Flavor is fruity at first, with some slight spice, and turns bitter as the hops present themselves more and more as the beer warms and gets neared the end of the bottle. Finishes warmingly strong. braudimusprime (75), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Sep 5, 2005 Dark, dark brown pour with minimal head. Bold and alcoholic, also bitter and yeasty. Heavy, dark fruits round it out and give it typical Quad wine-ness. Solid for its type. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Aug 26, 2005 Updated: Sep 13, 2009This reddish brown ale poured with a very sparse beige head, eliciting a spicy candy aroma. The flavor is fruity and pumpkin-like, with a somewhat bitter alcohol finish and a carbonated mouthfeel. The complex flavor and high alcohol content lends this brew excellent aging potential. I’ll try another bottle after 5 or so years in the cellar.
