PeterA (339), Virginia, USA Apr 30, 2005 Spicey, malty aroma. Very nice cloudy cooper color with a dense, slightly off-white head. The flavor has a hint of orange, and perhaps some candy sugar. It starts sweet and mellows as passes through the mouth, leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is somewhat sticky. I should have shared this... mixamatt (427), San Francisco, California, USA Apr 29, 2005 Mild caramel . dark fruit , pinapple aroma. Dark tawny appearance with light beige head. Flavors of sweet malt , tangerine apple pears bananas and spicy yeast. Alcohol is well hidden. Mild fruity finish .Very smooth considering its ABV. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA Apr 26, 2005 i tossed aside allagash’s brassy muzzle and teased the cork upward-- just a little -- and then let the pent-up carbonation do the rest. by itself it hefted the confining over-burden smoothly out of the bottle-- as effortlessly as arnold in his better days benching 300-- and then boomed like a starting gun. i directed the ale to a comfortable seat inside a seasoned snifter and waited as it frisked and foamed about-- frantically scouring the edges and seemingly seeking a means of escape. it soon calmed and settled placidly into a lantern glow of ruby port and ox blood red. the head was a natural tan of spun wool, thick as a good pair of socks, but with some time and probing, i discovered i’d worn a couple holes in the fine woolen fibres. apple peels-- loads of apples, some brown and some sour green, that’s what it smells like-- and the smell is fine. it has pie spices, cane sugar, a shot of ouzo, and it’s pregnant with bulging, yeasty bread dough. carbonation cools quickly and becomes a soft conveyor of full-bodied flavors: cranberry bitterness and sweet port notably. with a note of milk chocolate it has the precursors of silkiness, yet it remains taut, sinuous, and a little bumpy-- that is, some sharp edges may be a bit jarring for some tastes, but if you’ve got good shocks, it’ll take you deep into a lofty and pristine backcountry where the views are breathtaking. mucho thanks to my sister kerry-- a lady as refined as any trappist quadruppel-- and i don’t say THAT about just any ol’ gal. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Apr 24, 2005 Bottle courtesy of BuckNaked in trade. Pours dark copper with decent head that fades to a ring of bubbles. Yeasty fruit aroma. Flavor has alot going on. Banana, orange, some dark fruits, chewy yeast, and some alcohol present. Nice brew overall. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Apr 22, 2005 Fruity, spicy and alcoholic. The body has a soft chewy malt. The flavor is fairly bright and sweet. The aroma has strong bits of mandarin oranges and apples along with brown sugar and raisins. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Apr 15, 2005 Pours thick with a small head. Aroma is almost exclusively yeast and alcohol, and the flavor follows suit, except malt-flavored spices are added. Actually, the alcohol isn’t much of a factor in the taste. Aftertaste is leftover yeast and spice. Not bad. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA Apr 8, 2005 Reddy-orange, clouded hue, execellent head formation. Mildly burnt, fruity malt with cloves and apple. Fruity sweet palate, green apple and grapes, slightly wooody, alcohol is noticeable but well balanced. Slightly sweet bready, burnt aftertaste. No sensation for a quadro but pretty good stuff. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Apr 6, 2005 Bottle from Styles. Deep amber in color. Decent white head. Fruity and yeasty aromas. Medium bodied. Flavors run the same as aroma with a bit of fruitiness and yeast. Alcohol is hidden fairly well. A bit more hopped up than expected. Solid quad but not world class.
