Drew (2406), Kent, Ohio, USA Jan 17, 2005 Four malts, four hops, four fermentations - I’ll take four bottles, please! Well, I only had one bottle, so I shared with a few friends. Orange/brown body, hazy, big fluffy head, good lacing. Aroma was sweet and spicy. Awesome palate - small smooth bubbles followed by a thick chewy chocolate sweet malt. Taste was moslty sweet bready malts with a spicy slightly hoppy dry finish. notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 9, 2005 Foamy, cloudy amber pour, with a really complex aroma of dates, figs, brown sugar, cloves, and a hint of gingerbread - oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation - very sweet, but not cloying - various characters in the aroma come through in the flavor as well, with a hint of spice and fresh ginger - nutmeg - leaves a lot of stickiness behind, but this doesn’t really take away from the enjoyment of the beer - a pretty darn good american-made Abt, but not anywhere close to Southampton’s (but then again, what is?). HighlanderOne (538), Somewherein, New Jersey, USA Jan 9, 2005 Heady, with a smoked malt flavor. No lasting head to speak of. Alcohol is blended well in the aroma and flavor. My only complaint is a somewhat sticky mouthfeel afterward. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Jan 3, 2005 This was a good New Years eve treat. Spicy with overripe fruit, figs, caramel and dough flavors. Metalhead (570), Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA Jan 1, 2005 Orangey copper color, one finger head with mild carbonation. I’m getting no banana, coriander or hops as others have mentioned. Mostly moderately sweet malt, brown sugar, with some mild spices(ginger?) and a somewhat sweet sticky finish. Pretty good but would probably be better in a couple years. ragesaq (53), Arizona, USA Jan 1, 2005 Updated: Mar 14, 2006Apperance: almost copper brown color, a little apparant carbonation with moderate head and moderate lacing.
Aroma: Sweet, slight carmel and banana, coriander and sugar cane, some other spices.
Flavor: Rich but balanced, a slightly fruity sweetness.
A nice sweet golden belgian with lots of delicious belgian yeast, balanced with the perfect combination of hops and malts. Sweetness comes from banana esters, and then some coriander and belgian candi sugar, with some carmel/brown sugar mixed in.
Palate: Full, creamy, smooth, very satisfying.
Overall: I think I found my new favorite beer, VERY good. jaymobrown (1343), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 1, 2005 Banana alcohol flavor. Malt biscuits. Moderate gold color. Bread, sweet plum, raisins all thrown in. Pretty good mouthfeel. Most of the alcohol comes up front and then more of the thicker fruit malt flavors follow. Solid. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jan 1, 2005 Hazy dark amber color with a small tan head. Sweet malty aroma with some dark fruit and a nice hoppy nose. Flavor is slightly sweet, but dries quickly. Mostly malts with raisins, caramel and a good hoppy finish. A bit of an alcohol
warming at the end.
