3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 5, 2004
Allagash limits itself to Belgian style ales and, judging from the two I’ve tried, does a pretty good job. Hazy copper/bronze colour. This is a big, powerful, beer in every way. Orangey hops are very evident in the aroma and the flavour. Yeast and candy sugar also in the aroma. Spice, more hops and crystallised fruit in the flavour. Very Belgian in style. Some sweetness, but also noticeable acidity on the finish. Impressed, yet somehow it seems to have less complexity and refinement than the best Belgians and I think the alcohol would get a touch intrusive had I been drinking a whole bottle rather than just a taster. But it’s a really good beer and I wonder whether the cornucopia of the very best of US beers at one sitting is making me just a little more nitpicking than I would otherwise be. Bottle at the DC gathering.

Good yeast and some cherry, pink grapefuit, grainy and grapefruit texture and medium mouthfeel. Carbonation. Understated in sweetness and fruit flavour.
My drinking buddy liked this a lot more than I did. Smooth
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lizabeth (360) - east falmouth, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 4, 2004
Dark mahogany with a medium ivory head that leaves lots of lace as it recedes. Nose: candi sugar, spices and yeast. Flavor: dark fruits, peaches, cinnamon, hazelnuts and just a hint of chocolate. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. The 10% ABV is well hidden. Nice.

Wow.Number 200 for me.This beer pours a dark amber with a thick fluffy head. The head dissipates while drinking, but stays laced on the top and clinging to the sides of the glass.Heavy fruit and nut flavors. The alcohol is present but not overpowering. Some spiciness going down with some bitterness as the finish.

Pours a bright hazy reddish-orange color with a nice off-white head that leaves a sticky lacing in my glass. Sweet fruity aromas, flavors of plums, cherries and spicy pepper. Full bodied with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel, alcohol well hidden, finishes a bit sweet.

Dark red and brown coloring. The head is medium sized and a yellowish tan. The aroma is yams, cloves, peaches and bread. The taste is sweet and the mouthfeel is full bodied. Also a sticky feel in the mouth. The tastes also have brandy, yams and a spicy finish. The finish is cloves. A very nice and solid brew with the alcohol well hidden.

Copper colored brew raising a thick off cream colored head. A little to much alcohol in the nose for my liking but thankfully it doesnt come through in the taste. Malty, fruity, spicy and just a little sweetness. Very enjoyable.

Tap. Nice hazy amber color with medium sized head poured into a nice Allagash glass. Aroma has a nice yeast smell. The 1stthing about drinking this I noticed was how lively the mouthfeel is. The taste has flavors of dark fruits and an excellent yeast strain. Somewhat bitter and very smooth.
