4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BeerandBlues2 (6096) - Lone Tree, Colorado, USA - JAN 17, 2007
Bottle provided by beastiefan2k. Pours hazy brown and amber with a small fizzy light brown head, somewhat diminishing, spare head. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, toffee, nutty), heavy hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough, fresh leather) with notes of heavy alcohol, apple, pear and port. Full bodied, sticky texture, avearage carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness; moderate alcohol and heavy malt, caramel, maple flavor, perfume and floral hops, well balanced.

6th July 2008. Smooth malty beer - no bitterness at all. Very dry aromatic finish. Not a bad Belgian style beer but otherwise unremarkable.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cletus (6062) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 7, 2005
Pours ruby red with no noticeable head. Complex with a fruity taste and strong noticeable alcohol aftertaste. Decent, but overkill to my taste buds.

Another delicious high grav brew from Allagash. This one pours hazy deep copper/ruby tinged with a fluffy, 3-finger white head. The aroma is very fruity, with a tropical skew, and a heavy caramel malt and hop presence, plus a cobwebby, candi sugary element. The palate is dense and bold, with the flavors being fruity up front (figs, plums, berries, cabernet, port) then yielding to a hoppy floral spicy candi sugary malt taste. Very complex, the alcohol does emerge a little as it warms, but that takes nothing away from this one. Another masterpiece from Allagash, a brewer that is quickly rising into my all time upper echelon.

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2004 Bottle at blind tiger. Deep brown, cloudy, no head at all. Nose is hit up by bready malt and yeast flavors. Rather sweet aroma: fruity (grapes, melon, dates) with mild vanilla-like alcohol vapors. Musty peaks. On the tongue, the big allagash malt hits you up. Caramelic, chocolatey, marzipan-like, very sweet. Easy to pick up alcohol, but it’s an ABT and you don’t mind that. Decent flavor balance, but just not as appealing fruitiness or yeastiness than top examples who are probably just as sweet, but manage to stuck your mind out of this thought. Full body, high carbonation a la allagash, smooth anyway. I found their tripel vastly superior, but allagash knows their brewing, no doubts about it and this will be highly enjoyable in a few years. Resampling proposed a far yeastier sample with less flavorful malt and a much more subdued flavor profile. Notes of white chocolate, sweet honey, flowers... Lowering from 3.8 to 3.5

On tap at Landmark 1850 Inn - Milwaukee. Pour was a clear and deep ruby/amber with a medium tan head. Nice intricate lacing as this one went down. Deep dark fruits and other malts provided a strong basis for the aroma and the flavor. Spices and candi sugar were also present in the aroma and flavor. Flavor gets an extra point for being slightly more bold and intense than the nose. Very smooth and coating on the palate, with some warmth at the back of the throat. This was an excellent brew!
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jerc (5580) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 16, 2004
Nice dark amber body witha solid head. Alcohol is apparent in the flavour profile, but not as much as it could be given the high octane of this brew. Nice hoppy aroma, of a body that is sweetly malty with hints of sugars. Nice find Joey_Capps.
