3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 BIGC (29) - USA - APR 2, 2004
750ml at 9.79 a bottle but well worth it. enjoyed it in a chimay trappist glass. awesome aroma of malt, fruit, and alcohol. beautiful brown-orange color with a lasting creamy head and lasting carbonation. super mouthfeel, best i've had in a while. you can taste all the sugars and malt. yummy. The box that i took this bottle out of said bottled on march 12 2004. In my opinion, you can taste the lack of aging. The hop bite is very evident and is the only disapointment. this beer is good now, 2-3 years it'll be a contender with any quads and worth it's hefty price. oh, you will feel the alcohol in this one, no doubt about it, cheers.

Translucent, decent sized head that dissipates slowly. Metallic flavour while cold, goes away as beer warms up.

Beautiful Light Brown/Dark Copper tones.
That of citrus, Lemon/Orange Peel
Wow- not like it smells at all. A grapefruit. Medium Hops. Slightly sweet maple sugar.
Over the top. Wonderful mouthfeel - one of the best I’ve had. A major factor in my liking of this beer.
A sipper not a session beer. Allagash has done it again - another great addition to a stellar collection.

Not one to write home about. Kind of Oh hum. Nice aroma, good pour but average taste.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beerist (14) - Athens, Georgia, USA - FEB 25, 2007
Pours a reddish/copper with a thinner than usual (for a quad) head. Not quite as pillowy as a St Bernardus, but the head that does remain lasts throughout. Aroma is yeasty, fruity, and slightly peppery with hints of cherries, raisins, and figs. Taste is dark, and fruity with hints of phenols and figs. There is also a fairly noticable peppery/warming alcohol finish. Overall, not the best quad ever, but pretty good.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 wesyates (14) - South Carolina, USA - DEC 19, 2011
So we had this from the bottle at a tasting and as stated: Four means four malts, four yeasts and four hops were used at four different times. Being ~10%, I can say that it would need these different additions to create the taste. Tho I didn’t rate this as high as the others I tasted, it did have a great dark almost porter characterstic. Carmel and chocolate to a roasted note. Hazy with a rocky, off-white head that lasted for the glass. Apple and honey notes also present.

This beer was decent, but not overly impressive. Nice orange color, drop dead headand decent flavor. I had expected much more from this beer.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 kylelackner (13) - USA - MAR 15, 2006
A beer i thoroughly enjoy every time i crack one. Very malty and sweet, but much better balanced than other American quads i have tasted. It hides the alcohol well, though the thick pour, rich flavors, and dark color do hint at what’s in store. It has good favors found in Belgian classics, with some citrus and spice backing the malts. One of those beers that makes you wonder why you should go to a bar and buy $4 imports when you can spend $4 per person for a delicious glass of this.

Decanted into a wide-mouthed, stemmed glass from a corked 750ml bottle.
The Four pours a hazy reddish orange that glows like the sun against the light. A huge vanilla colored head easily erects into a cloud-like froth. It hangs around for several minutes and leaves thick lacing behind.
The aroma starts mild, you really have to dip your nose into the glass to pick up it’s nuances. It smells of sweet malts, light hops, and tons of fruity esters that remind me of bananas and tropical fruits. There is the slightest hing of alcohol, too. Once the head dissipates, though, the aromas really come alive.
Palate is clean and full, with layers of flavors that arrange themselves perfectly. I can feel it all over my tongue, mouth, lips, everywhere. There’s a good amount of carbonation to keep things lively. Malty flavors throughout, with medium hop bitterness, a little biscuit, toasted malt, dark fruits, and maybe some red currants. Hints of butterscotch, too. The beer finishes with a heavy malt presence, similar to a scotch ale or wee heavy. The experience never shows the beer’s 10% ABV.
This another great offering from Allagash. A very flavorful, unique, drinkable beer. Not a session beer, but it can go with or without food. It’s so heady in it’s appearance, aroma, palate, and taste. I’ll definitely buy a couple of bottles for the cellar.
